Hi I am new to the group, and I had a ultrasound in October 2003

which reported:

The uterus measures 11.3 cm long X 5.1 cm AP X 6.3 cm transverse and

is anteverted. There is a posterior hypoechoic uterine fibroid in

the mid to lower uterine body measuring 2.1 X 2.7 X 2.5 cm. This

does contact and displace, the endometrial stripe anteriorly. The

visualized aspect of the endometrial stripe are variable in

thickness, measuring up to 7MM. A second fibroid is seen in the left

mid to upper uterine body, measuring 1.2 X 1.7 X 1.7 cm. A third

fibroid arises exophytically from the posterior left side of the

uterine body measuring 1.8 X 1.6 X 1.8 cm. A fourth fibroid is also

subserosal in location, extending posteriorly to the right,

measuring 1.4 X 1.7 X 1.9 cm.

Impression: Fibroid Uterus. Ovarian cysts seen are likely

physiologic.

Can anyone here explain this to me in laymen's terms? I have a

myomectomy scheduled 5/18. I have requested a second sonogram for

Monday, since this was taken almost six months ago to see if there

are any changes. I have tried unsuccessfully to conceive for over a

year and a half. Are the fibroids described likely preventing

conception? My doctor says the largest one is most likely the

culprit. I am hoping that the myomectomy is my best choice, since

watching waiting hasn't done anything thus far, and I really would

like to start a family. Any replies would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much,

le
