Guest guest
It is not the size, but the location of fibroids that cause bleeding problems. Even the tiniest fibroid inside the uterine cavity (submucousal fibroids) can cause extreme bleeding problems. The fibroids itself does not bleed, but interferes with the normal contractions of the uterus during the period. This website has a good explanation of why this happens: http://repmed.com/fibroids.html. The good news about many submucousal fibroids is that they can be removed by hysteroscopic resection, which is an outpatient procedure with no incision. The catch is that you have to find a doctor with the skills and training to do this type of procedure. Unfortunately many docs who don't have the skills won't bother to refer you to one who does, who you need to do your own legwork to find the right doctor. > Hi there, > > How big does a fibroid have to be before I would expect to bleed from > it and why do they make us bleed.
