Guest guest
Pikea, I think the best answer is it all depends on where they are located. Some women have fibroids close to their tubes and they block them which make it harder or prevent them from getting pg. I personally had 6 large fibroids and several tiny ones about pea sized. They were all intramural and submucosal. I consulted with my OB and a reproductive endocrinologist before ttc. Both told me that there is no guarantee that I would or would not have complications or difficulty getting pg. They did however warn me that there were risks involved with a fibroid uterus and being pg. Most of the risks were pre-term labor, pain, and lots of discomfort. I made the decision to go ahead and get pg. It happened in just 3 months. I was elated to say the least and so was my husband. Unfortunately in my situation I went into pre-term labor and my water broke at 5 months. My son was still born. The doctors explained that my fibroids grew dramatically during the pregnancy and caused my uterus to go to full term at 20 weeks which was too big. I was devastated and will never be the same. I have subsequently had an open myo to remove all of those monsters. I have been given the go ahead to ttc again. Now I have a fibroid free uterus and hopefully will get pg soon. This is only my situation. I have heard of lots of women who have fibroids (although not as many as I had) and have had successful pregnancies. Please go over all of your fears and all of your options with your doctor. Consult an RE too. They often have more experience with fibroids and the options available to you. In hindsight I wish my RE would have told me not to ttc. But after speaking with him he did tell us all of the risks involved. His advise pre-myo was you don't have a history of trouble with these. Once I had the still birth he said now you have a history and these things must come out. The best thing I ever did was to have that myo. I feel so much better today. I wish you luck and hope you will do as much research as you can before you make a decision. You have already made a good decision by joining this group.
