Guest guest
Hi everyone, I just had an abdominal myomectomy last Wednesday. I decided to have the procedure only 10 days before the actual surgery (doc had a cancellatation and I decided to go for it). I had never had surgery before and was terrified of the prospect of being under anasthsia and being cut open. I joined this group to get some information. Reading about everybody's experience with sugery was enormously reassuring. I couldn't believe the difference it made to my emotional well being right before surgery. Knowing what to expect was such a relief. So thank you thank you thank you all you wonderful people. My surgery was very successful, took less than 2 hours and removed 2 8cmx8cm fibroids and another small one. When I woke up, it was uncomfortable as I was extremely cold and couldn't stop shaking, and I was also in pain. Soon everything was under control though. I did get nausea from the morphine which was controled by some medicine through my IV. Once I was able to eat some crackers, they switched me from morphine button to oral painkiller (oxycodin?) and that was much better as the nausea was actually worse than pain. I stayed in the hosptical for two nights. I can't say it was a stroll in the park, and it seemed very long as I woke up every hour. But now the worst parts are over. I am taking oxycodin at night and motrin during the day and I feel stronger every day. Worst is when I have coughing fits; it hurts but most of all I am terrified that the stitches would open. So far it seems to hold up pretty well. Thanks again and good luck to everybody who is about to have a procedure. Everything will be OK.
