Yes, shortness of breath is most definitely a symptom. Alhtough I

have severe asthma and multiple other allergies which interfere with

my breathing, there is a noticeable problem breathing that is

associated with the anemia itself. It's really hard to explain, but

I find myself feeling like I've been holding my breath too long.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that the oxygen carrying

capacity of our blood is so reduced by the anemia. My doctor

confirmed that this symtpom is, indeed, from the anemia.

Hi! I have/had anemia due to major blood loss obviously becuase of

a fibroid. My hemocrit was down to 24. I am awaiting results from

a blood test. I've been on iron 65mg 3X a day for about 4 1/2 weeks

since my UFE procedure. I was headachey, exhausted and, tired and

weakk!! Shortness of breath is a symtom. I would notice my heart

pounding whenever I walked up the stairs. Good luck. They will

probably prescribe iron pills for you. Jen

Hi,

Women with " normal " periods often find themselves with anemia. It's common. You

don't have to have fibroids or heavy bleeding to have it. Older people have it

at a higher rate too. Kids can have it. Women are at a higher risk than men.

Get it checked. It can't hurt.

Hi - If you are not experiencing heavy bleeding, is it still

possible to become anemic from fibroids? I have heard that the

fibroids draw blood away from your uterus and other organs.

Also, how do clots fit into the blodd-loss situation? I have heard

other LOL say they have experienced heavy bleeding with clots,

and/or heavy bleeding after passing clots. Is there normally a lot

of blood in the clots themselves? Or are they more an indication

that you will experience some heavy bleeding very soon?

I'm curious b/c I have been tired and craving ice, but have not have

abnormally heavy periods or clotting. I can't determine if I am

feeling these things from stress or from the fibroids. I did,

howver, pass a huge clot during my last period, and that really

freaked me out.

Thanks!

I just had another period from hell! I can't wait to get rid of this

fibroid! It just so happens that every time I get ready to do it I get laid

off - no insurance!

Anyway, I noticed I was extremely breathless after this period. I know my

blood count a month ago (after the previous period from hell) was 11.4 but

I don't know what it is now. I know that as usual I bled very heavily.

If I go upstairs and come back down I have to sit down for 10 minutes to

get my breath back because I am panting! I have little energy to do

anything that requires physical activity. I can't believe that two months

off Lupron puts me back at this level again!

I noticed that the muscles in my calves are terribly sore and I have no

idea why. It is as if I wore high heels for a week. Also, when I get

breathless and sit down, my lower back gets knifelike pains. I remember I

got this when I was anemic before but surely my blood level is not nearly

low enough for me to get this now.

Yesterday after I went upstairs, I looked in the mirror and my face was

red. That NEVER happens to me. I feel like a real invalid and all because

of a fibroid!
