Guest guest
Since you have had dysmenorrhea for so many years I don't think it is fair to place all the blame on your fibroids. Other causes of pain could include endometriosis, ovarian cysts, and a retroverted uterus. Some dietary influences can include too many bad prostaglandins in your body; cut back on animal products and increase consumption of foods containing Vit E (vitamin E is supposed to help produce the good prostaglandins that don't cause the pain). Eat more leafy green and cruciferous vegetables (cabbage, broccoli, etc.), and drink more water. It can't hurt. Acupuncture can help with pain from fibroids I know for a fact. My fibroid feels very different to me since I've been going for weekly acupuncture treatment and taking chinese herbs. (I'll report back on any changes at my next ultrasound, too soon to tell but I'm feeling less pressure!) I prepared this list of links for Edith's daughter who is having the same problem, I'm sorry you are in such pain but hopefully this will help. PAINFUL PERIOD LINKS A Young Woman's Guide to Painful Menstrual Cramps (AKA: Dysmenorrhea) http://www.obgyn.net/displayarticle.asppage=/yw/articles/pats_dysmenor rha What is Dysmenorrhea? http://www.dyspareunia.org/html/dysmenorrhea.htm Cramps/Painful Menstruation/Dysmenorrhea http://scc.uchicago.edu/dysmenorrhea.htm Arvigo Maya Massage can help with painful periods: Healing Wombs: Maya Abdominal Massage http://www.spiritofchange.org/fa091003a.shtml Arvigo practitioners can be found via this site: http://www.arvigomassage.com/index.html Perhaps you won't find relief but surgery is so devastating to the body, and it can leads to other complications such as adhesions and prolapse, that it makes sense to exhaust your other options first. Also, if this is the first time you are seeing a doctor about your pain don't make a hasty decision about treatment based on a quick diagnosis. You went in because you were having pelvic pain -- for years even -- and your doctor has automatically assigned that to the fibroid even though it might not be the major cause of the problem. Good luck. Ann > I am having my myo 5/19 and am really lokking forward to it if it will stop these freakin cramps. Every since I was 12 & started my period, I have been dealing with gut wrenching cramps..
