Guest guest
Hello All, I'm finding it interesting that a lot of the " little and not so little " health problems and annoyances are possibly from my fibroids. In reading peoples posts I'm understanding more and more of my condition since I have gotten no answers from any of the doctors I have seen thus far. My health started declining last July, I thought it was just stress. I had recently moved back to California from Vegas after my soon to be X lost everything we had while I was here on vacation in June with my kids. I was a mess, not eating, sleeping, constant migraines and then the vertigo. In the ER they did a CAT scan and said, " Well I have good news and bad news. The good news is there's nothing wrong with your head to be causing migraines and vertigo; the bad news is there's nothing wrong with your head " They sent me home with meds and told me to basically sleep it off. In December I was back in the ER with the same problems only the vertigo and migraines were not being taken care of with meds. They did a repeat CAT scan, IV fluids and IV Phenergan for the nausea and dizziness. Within minutes I felt like I could rip off my skin, I couldn't lie still I was jumpy and doped up. My fiancé said I looked like a fish out of water. I remember the doctor ordering Bendryl to counteract the effects of the Phenergan and the nurse saying, " but it's quite entertaining to watch you like this " The Benedryl didn't work so they gave me more and then a third dose. After about 7 hours in the ER I went home with still no information and more meds. Valium for the dizziness and Tylenol w/codeine for the headaches. They did blood work that night and sent the report to my new doc. That was when I first found out I was anemic but no on knew why. I checked out every book I could find on vertigo and anemia. They sent me to a specialist for a hearing test thinking I had Minere's Disease and maybe that was causing the vertigo and headaches. The new doctor I was seeing said I was severely anemic a count of 5 and was surprised I could function at all. I told him I didn't have a choice, I was a single mother of 3 teens, I was going to school and working. I had to keep going. The iron they prescribed helped and my count continued to go up. No one ever asked me about my periods. At my next visit he recommended doing my annual woman's visit since it was almost a year since my last one. He referred me to his female PA to do the check. At that visit she went over all my previous tests and I gave her my own chart I had been keeping on my blood count. I'm in nursing school so in clinic I had begun to do daily hemoglobin and glucose testing to try to determine what my levels were and if the vertigo could be glucose related. My hemoglobin was on a gradual increase while my glucose was at a staggering low, hypoglycemic at 38, 42 and the low 50's. She told me to keep charting daily and she would watch the levels and then determine what to do from there. During my pelvic she commented on my enlarged uterus and asked me if anyone had ever mentioned that. I said no and she ordered an ultrasound. They found free fluid and possible small fibroid. They repeated the scan in a month and said basically the same and to come back in a year. The PA put me on Imitrex for the migraines and Claritin thinking maybe it was sinus related. No one ever said it could be from the fibroids or anemia. Which now after all my own research I've done I'm finding it quite common. When I mentioned my lack of good sleep because I had to get up 3 times a night to pee she immediately thought diabetes. The next month I had two periods in one month so she sent me to a GYN who did another scan and he found a 3-cm submucousal fibroid and a few smaller ones. He took me off the pill and suggested thermal ablation to destroy the lining of my uterus to stop the bleeding or a hysterectomy. He scheduled a biopsy the following month. Everything appeared normal but he was still recommending hysterectomy even at my suggestion of myomectomy. I was then sent to a neurologist for the migraines, after a 5-minute exam he prescribed Nortriptyline at bedtime and said follow up in a month. Nortriptyline is an anti depressant. I recently got a referral to a new GYN but they won't even schedule an appointment without first checking my insurance and getting all my medical records. ::sigh:: So now I look to these boards to help me self diagnose and treat my symptoms that I now know are from the fibroids.
