I have one big fibroid inside the muscle of my uterus. My husband and I have

been TTC for almost a year now. We discovered the fibroid at a OB

appointment where I was asking about TTCing in the future and what did I need to

do to

prepare.

I do ultrasounds every 6 months. My fibroid has grown some. We did an MRI,

and my Doc has the same concerns that yours did. He said that I should TTC

all I want, but that I may have trouble getting PG, and I may have trouble

staying PG. He also said it could cause problems during the pregnancy. BUT he

said we would cross that bridge when we came to it. He said that it all depends

on where the placenta attaches. There is no way to change that or predict

that...so other than changing my eating habits, and stopping the binge weekend

drinking I'm not doing anything but waiting. I have decided to relax and let

nature take over.

Feel free to email my privately and we can chat back and forth.

Lola,

I can speak from experience with this one. I just

delivered a healthy baby girl 4 weeks ago. I had

multiple large fibroids in all different locations

prior to conceiving. Because I had already had an

abdominal myomectomy 5 years ago to remove 15

fibroids, the doctor thought I should ttc rather than

doing another major surgery on my uterus. So I tried

and got pregnant right away. I know I am very lucky

b/c many people with fibroids have a problem with

conceiving. Anyway, that was the easy part.

Unfortunately, I had a very difficult pregnancy. I was

put on bedrest at 15 weeks and remained until she

arrived in the 37th week. The pain was so bad from 2

degenerating fibroids which put me on the initial

bedrest. Then at 22 weeks I started having

contractions. I wound up in the hospital a few times

before the baby arrived b/c my contractions were so

frequent. My doctor said b/c of the fibroids I had a

very " irritable uterus " and they can cause

contractions and premature labor. The problem with

fibroids and pregnancy is that you just don't know

what kind of pregnancy you will have. I had a bad one

but I would do it all over again. Although they can

cause premature labor and other problems, many times

they don’t cause any problems or they cause pain for

the mother as in my case. The good news is that you

may have no problems with your pregnancy and fibroids.

There are just no guarantees. No one can tell you

what to do. I know that I have to make a decision in

the next few months of whether or not to have another

myo or to ttc again after just removing one fibroid

which the doctor feels will pose a risk for the next

one. I am leaning towards not doing the myo and I know

that I may have another difficult pg. If you are

leaning towards ttc and not going forward with surgery

, my only advice would be to start trying rather than

waiting b/c your fibroids may grow while you are

waiting and then you may not have the choice. Good

luck with your decision. It’s never an easy one.
