Guest guest
Hello all, I've been lurking for awhile now, and this is my first post. I'm so glad that this list is here! I'm 42 y.o., and have had fibroids for about 18 years now. My menstrual bleeding has recently become intolerable. I'm in the process of changing gyns and pursuing a surgical option now. I'd considered having a myomectomy in the past, but have been put off by the recovery time. I'm now a full time student working on a career change, and I still have issues with the recovery time of myomectomy, and am now considering having UAE. The anemia from my heavy menstrual bleeding makes being a student extraordinarily difficult, as I just don't have enough energy to meet the demands of the day. I came online this morning to ask the question of why some of you chose the procedures you've had... why myo over UAE, and found that someone had just asked the same question. Great minds, eh? I guess my question is, since I now understand that gyns don't do UAE, how would I go about getting more information? What are the steps I need to take to see if I'm a good candidate for this? Thanks in advance for all of your help.. I've been paralyzed with fear over this for many years.. (I'm tremendously embarrassed to admit this, by the way). ~Bev
Guest guest
Bev, If I was you I would look into the UAE. I am a student to changing my career at 35 yrs old. and I was going to have hyst, but I found the UAE and I am planning on having that done. Right now my insurance is giving me a fit about the procedure. The reason being was I had a hyst schedule and I cancelled and the same day the insurance got the information about the UAE and didn't really like the idea. The recovery time for a UAE is a week or less. I know I had gotten accept into the Physical Therapy Assistant program for this summer, but after all the problems I was having I had to drop out of the program and go into it next summer. I had a myo in 1998 and they removed the tumors and the tumors came back last year and when they did they came back at full force. I know some women will say they want come back, but my did and I know some of other women that their tumors came back to. I want to do the UAE so I want have to have major surgery and I really don't want to loose my uterus and I still will have a chance at fertility. The first thing I did, was started calling different IR'S in my area and I never called my gyn until about two weeks ago and told him. The first thing the IR will want to do is a MRI to see if you are a candidate or not. I wish you the best of luck.
