Guest guest
That's an interesting page. Just as a side note, many midwives feel that fibroids are not necessarily a high-risk situation. My midwife group gives most of its patients the option of delivering at a birth center or at a nearby hospital that they're affiliated with. They only let certain women deliver at the birth center; they screen them carefully. If a woman has any potential complications that the midwives feel they might not be able to handle at the birth center, such as pre-eclampsia, they won't let her deliver at the birth center. The midwives have quite a long list of conditions that they won't handle at the birth center. Despite the size of my fibroid (it grew from 6 cm to 13 cm during the pregnancy), the midwives gave me permission to give birth at the birthing center. When I asked about the possibility of excess hemorrhaging, they said they were equipped to deal with that at the birth center. In the end, Mother Nature had a say in things. My daughter was 16 days late, and we had to use Cervidil to get contractions going. Since Cervidil requires uterine monitoring, I was admitted to the hospital, but the plan was to transfer me to the birth center once labor got going well. Mother Nature had other plans, though. She worked up quite a blizzard that day, so I ended up staying in the hospital rather than taking a chance on the roads. It was a fairly ordinary labor and delivery, with no excess hemorrhaging afterwards.
