Guest guest
In case newer members of this group would like to know of another successful resection, mine, which was done last May, stopped my excess bleeding immediately. I had a pendunculated uterine polyp that measured a whopping 9 cm. removed - it caused tremendous bleeding with clots during the most harrowing time of my life. My periods have been pretty light since then - the worst day is the first real day, as I still have other fibroids and the uterine walls don't do a good job of contracting to regulate blood flow, but it's a vacation compared to what I had before. I had to have iron infusions before surgery, to get my hgb to 10.5 and my ferritin stores up - this took 5 weeks, with an infusion about once a week. I also took a prescription iron supplement called Anemagen, that has B-12 in it, 3x a day. My ferritin got all the way up to 188, but then I got another huge period a week before surgery that dropped me down to 99. I still had my period the day of the surgery and lost a lot of blood, so I was very glad to have had the infusions. I had no physical problems or side effects from the infusions and felt better almost immediately after the first one. I recommend it to any woman who is severely anemic and facing surgery. My ferritin just after surgery was down to the low 40s, so you can see how valuable it was. I stayed overnight in the hospital after my surgery so they could monitor my blood levels but went home the next afternoon. I too heard " hyst " from my first 3 doctors and a hematologist and it was most upsetting; it took 2 months (in NYC!) to find a skilled myo surgeon in my plan. Those 2 months were very difficult as my bleeding increased so much that I could not work and had so much to learn about fibroids that seemingly appeared overnight. This group helped me enormously, and gave me the strength to persevere and fight to keep myself intact. I knew that there had to be better referrals out there; it took time, but I did find the right doctor. Hope this helps someone... Good luck to all trying to get those fireballs out!
