Guest guest
Hello , Your question is a good one. This was a question of mine many years ago when I first started having heavy periods. After my doctor saw a drop in my hemoglobin levels, he decided to put me on continuous bc pills for 3 months at a time. I would have my period only four times a year, thus helping my anemia. These days, doctors are telling us that it may be in our best interest (even without fibroids or any uterine issues) to take bc pills this way. The less blood that is lost each month, the better. Many pharmacists are seeing more and more bc pills prescribed for 3 month cycles. It is certainly not harmful for you to wait a week or two to take your placebo pills. If you have large fibroids that cause heavy bleeding you may notice some breakthrough bleeding during this extended cycle time. But not to worry. Breakthrough bleeding is common when you are altering hormone regulation therapy. Be sure your doctor knows you are doing this, and keep good track of the days so you can tell him/her how your cycle has changed if he/she asks. You may find that six week cycles are better for you than four week. Your doctor may even suggest this if you are anemic. So have fun on your vacation and try not to worry, sometimes that makes your period come sooner even on the pill. If you do not hear from your doctor, that's okay, at least you have left him/her a message with your question as well as what you plan to do. My best, :)Sonja
