There was a posting recently in which a patient expressed that her

HMO doctor misdiagnosed her and she has decided to pay for treatment

herself.

Is this a common experience ? Do many of you feel that HMO doctors

are not good?

I am pretty much new to this country and I do have questions about

the health system. I cannot afford other than an HMO being a single

teacher.

Please let me know if there are good experiences with HMOs.

I will run a background check on my doc. MediNet offers background

checks for doctors.

thanx for your help.

My Dr. is part of my HMO and she is excellent - she has been my

Ob/Gyn for the last 13 years and also did my ab myo this year. Not

all Drs. participate in all HMOs - some might participate in some

and not others - it all depends on how much the HMO agrees to pay

them for their services.

Please don't be discouraged - I am sure there are a lot of Drs. on

your HMO...if you are not comfortable with your current one, see

another one in your area that is on your HMO. Good luck to you.

I think it depends on the doctor and the HMO. I've been involved with three

different HMOs. I had consistently bad experiences with one HMO. With the other

two HMOs, I've been happy with the doctors that were affiliated with them,

including the doctor who did my myomectomy.
