HMO doctors vs. private practice doctors

Hi everybody:

I was the person who posted about my HMO doctor misdiagnosing the type

and number of fibroids I had, so I chose to see a private nationally

recognized doctor, Dr. Glassner and pay for my office visit

with him and I am attempting to get a loan to have him do my

hysteroscopic resection of 2 intracavity fibroids.

My HMO doctor also 1st recommended I have a vaginal hysterectomy. I

am just another victim of the national trend for doctors (who are not

skilled enough to do myomectomies) to do TAH and simply remove the

uterus. I am 45, no children. A hysterectomy is unthinkable to me

and I informed my HMO doctor about that in writing.

My take on my problem is that if my HMO doctor just wanted to do a

vaginal hysterectomy, then conceeded to do a resection because I told

him a TAH was not a option for me.............what would have happened

to me if he did a resection? He's probably not very skilled in that

procedure...........so I may have ended up with a TAH anyway. The

consent form I would have to sign before surgery would give consent

(free him from liability) to do a TAH if things went wrong in surgery.

From my experience with Dr. Glassner, he is a private nationally

recognized doctor who is not affiliated with a HMO. I got better

medical treatment from him. I am sure there are good HMO gyn doctors,

however, my experience was not good with my HMO doctor. It's like

anything else in life. Trust your gut instincts. If the doctor you

are seeing is giving you the " willies " go elsewhere. I chose to go

elsewhere.

This issue for me is so important that I am trying to finance surgery

with Dr. Glassner. I don't want to wake up from anesthesia and have my

HMO doctor tell me, sorry we had to take the whole uterus. I am

trying to make an intelligent, logical & self-preservation decision

concerning my body.

Best wishes,

Jeanne

My frist obgyn was from a HMO. Where as she was very nice at frist had

great bedside mannor i think she was very imtamted by me. The second Obgyn was

very nice also more truthful but relly did not want to help me as only and only

wanted to do depo. So now i made an appominment with Dr Sweward at the brigam

and womens hospital on June 21. I saw my primrary care dr yesterday and she

said go a head make it i give you the refural. Then today i call for the refural

and her staff like no you need to see one are obgyn. I like i been there more

than once more than one obgyn. The stafff like we take your number and think

about a refural but dont count on it. UGGGGGG. I love my primry care dr but

her staff i could live with out
