I am new to this group and am excited to have found

you. I live near Dayton, OH and am looking for a good

gyno (etc.) who can help me with my problem. I have

been having extremely heavy bleeding w/ 'clots' as I

call them for 3 or 4 years now. My previous gyno did

a D&C (said he found several fibroids and an removed

an 'incredible amount' of polyps) and put me on birth

control pills. Didn't make any difference. His

recommendation then was hysterectomy. I was 41 at the

time and although I don't want any children, I know

that hysters can give you a whole different set of

challenges. I figure there must be other options. I

recently switched to a new gyno in Dayton, OH, who had

come highly recommended. I have a 7cm fibroid, and

have previously had an endometrial mass removed from

my abdomen (the size of a large lemon). My blood

count is at 10.1 and I am taking Ferrotrinsic capsules

daily in hopes of improving my blood count. His

suggestion: hysterectomy. I am still reluctant.

Having done some research on the internet, I was

interested in perhaps Myo or Endometrial Ablation.

When I posed these possibilities to him, he said

perhaps we could try an Endo Ablation although he

personally didn't think it would do much good. But he

honored my wishes and said he would try. Well, the EA

was performed although somewhat unsuccessfully.

During the procedure he found that my uterus was too

large (due to the fibroid) to get the tools to do the

'burning' process close enough to the walls. He said

he tried 2 different machines, and neither one would

work, due to my large uterus. He was, however, able

to tie my tubes (which is standard procedure when

having an Endo Ablation) - big deal - that was not an

issue for me. He said that he hoped it would be

'enough' to ease my problems; or at least buy me some

time to build up my blood and then perhaps do a hyster

in the Fall (or whenever I want it done.) Prior to

doing the hyster - once I let him know that I am

considering having a hyster performed - he wants to

put me on Depot Lupron to hopefully reduce the size of

the fibroid. So, I've been keeping my fingers

crossed, in hopes that the procedure would have at

least alleviated some of the bleeding. Well, I tarted

my first period since the procedure - NO difference

than before the procedure. 'Gushing' when I stand up,

sit down, sneeze, cough, laugh, bend over, etc.

Wearing the super/long/overnight pads round the clock

and still staining underwear. I sleep with a 'liner'

on my sheets at night, so as to try to prevent stains.

When I stand up in the a.m., blood runs down my legs.

(Sorry for the in depth details, but I'm trying to

convey my situation in hopes that others have been

there, done that, and have suggestions for me!) The

intense gushing/bleeding lasts for about 3-4 days, and

then the flow slows down, but the entire period will

last about 10 days.

Has anyone out there experienced similar symptoms? Do

you have any suggestions as to other procedures

available out there other than hysterectomy? And,

very importantly, do you know a good doctor in my area

who is up-to-date on the best procedures out there?

Anxious to hear from you.

Marie

Depo Lupron basically gives you a preview of menopause--it works by

shutting off your body's estrogen supply. So that could help you

see what life post-hysterectomy will be like.

I'm sorry I can't help you with the doctor, but YES!, I know what

that feels like! I ended up in the emergency room because of it--I

had, like, a pint and a half of blood left in my body--and that's how

I found out about my fibroids and endometriosis. (I had a really bad

gyno, and skipped my visits for a year. Never, ever again...)

One good thing about the Lupron is after a few days, that stuff stops

cold.

Blessed be,

Jayelle

, sorry to hear about all this!! Listen, I don't like the

sound of your gyno!!!!!! I'm sorry, but he doesn't know what he is

doing. first of all, Edo Ablation does NOT WORK FOR WOMEN WITH

FIBROIDS!!!!!!!!! Why didn't he know that?????????? It is a good

treatment but not for someone with fibroids. No wonder it didn't

work. You could look into Myo, but why go through all that with a

good chance it'll grow right back?!!

I had a 10cm fibroid with very heavy periods, including hemmoraging,

gushing and breakthrough bleeding. Extrememly frightening. I

became very anemic also. Of course they told me hysto was the only

answere. I am 43 and have had my kids already, so childbirth was not

an issue. I looked into the UFE myself, and found a wonderful group,

the yahoo embo group. Through the group, I found an excellent and

highly recommended IR also. I had this procedure done the end of

Janurary. I'm about 5 months post and doing great. My bleeding is

history, my periods are so light and managable, my body is totally

in tact and I highly recommend this procedure. It worked for me and

for so many other women. Look into this, it could be your answer.
