Guest guest
I had my bikini-incision myo in June 2003. While my doctor was much more lax than other doctors in terms of exercise and lifting things, he was stricter about showering, bathing and swimming. He allowed me to do whatever exercise I felt up to from the beginning. He specifically told me that I had NO restrictions on lifting. Of course I wasn't in the mood to do heavy grocery shopping and big loads of laundry; I'd done as much as I could in advance. My surgery was on Tuesday and I was sent home on Thursday. I asked him how soon I could take a shower and he told me to wait, I think it was a week. Even longer for a bath. Luckily, it was not a particularly hot, sticky time of year and I was able to give myself enough sponge baths to be hygienic until I was able to take real showers. It was a few more weeks before I could take a bath, swim, or have sex. (All of these were issues of being sure that there was enough healing that I would not be inviting an infection.) It seems like a lot of doctors don't particularly feel this (showering soon after surgery) is an issue, but mine does. I began walking the day after the surgery and walked more (briskly) as I felt up to it. Fellow fibroidians, we (and our insurance companies, if we're so fortunate) pay our doctors A LOT of money for our health care. Even if we have several weeks until our next appointment, please feel free to call your doctor and ask any questions. Many of these questions get asked so often that their office staff can answer them for you. I'd still love to hear any reviews of MeetUps that happened. How many were there? I've heard that there are pictures somewhere; anyone who can direct me to them? R.
