Guest guest
Joan, I have had two UAE's. I live in the NW suburbs of Mpls. My first UAE was done in March 2002 at Unity Hospital in Fridley. There were two fibroids that were able to re-establish a blood supply after that, so I opted for a 2nd UAE in Sept 2003, and have been happy since. Post UAE MRI show that my fibroids are all dead. My uterus hasn't shrunk an awful lot--,I have numerous intramural and serosal fibroids-but the symptoms of frequent urination and bowel pressure are gone, at at least 90% improved. I had my MRI and folllow-up with Suburban Imaging, Dr J. Plorde. He is currently the Head of Interventional Radiology at Mercy and Unity Hospitals. He has taught other IRs how to the the UAE procedure. My hospital experience was a good one, the nurses were excellent and I experienced no pain at the hospital. Pain mgmt after coming home consisted our Dilaudid or Percoset (narcotics, taken orally) and after a few days I was taking 3 ibuprofen every 4-6 hrs as directed. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any further questions. I would be glad to try to answer them. Or you may want to join the yahoo embo group board, which is made of of women (and drs) who have either had UAE or are considering it. It is definately a good choice for women in certain situations, and those wishing to avoid major surgery. Take Care, Elise, MN.
