Guest guest
Hi Kim~ I would like to sign on as a cheerleader for you and your little bambino!! I can honestly say I know how you feel --- and the first thing I want to impress upon you is to RELAX! You are pregnant!!! How exciting!!! Focus on growing the baby not the fibroid . . . With that, I'll share my experience with my recent pregnancy (LARGE roids -- two babies -- born healthy, beautiful, with no complications at 35 1/2 weeks!). > > My fibroid has grown, in the past four weeks since my last u/s, to a > total volume of 8cm, about 2.6cm all around. It's inside my utereus, > and close to my cervix. **My intramural grew from 5x6cm to over 10x14cm - fast. It stopped growing around 26 weeks. The smaller ones topped out at around 5cm. At my 3 month OB visit my doc said, " Everything looks great. Your uterus is growing just fine, and is exactly on track for 3-month pregnant woman carrying SEXTUPLETS " Yowzers!!! ** >I am freaking out! I haven't had any > bleeding or pain, but my dr. told me no sex or excercise for the > next three weeks, until my next u/s to check on the growth of the > fibroid. **I had a bleed at ten weeks --- Passed a few big clots, scared myself silly. This is when I found out I was having twins! I had residual bleeding for about 3 weeks, which tapered off and never returned. I did get put on bed rest for 2 weeks as a precaution. BOORRRRING!! And, gave me way to much time to read all the pregnancy/fibroid horror stories ever written (Another big no-no for you!) No exercise (except for walking) for me either -- through the whole pregnancy. Sex? Not really sure what that is anymore, but hey, You're Having a Baby!! ** > So far, the baby is perfectly healthy and not at any risk due to the > fibroid. The placenta is close to the fibroid, but not on top of it > at this time. **Hooray Baby!! Biggest risk is some pre-term labor, but your doc will monitor you for that and help you stop it if you need to. Fibroids are rich with blood and a welcome temptation to a growing placenta. HOWEVER, the placenta is a magical creature and actually MIGRATES to the top or back of the uterus throughout the pregnancy (this is the norm for most women). My placenta was completely covering my monster roid at 4 months, and two weeks later it had started moving away. By the time the girls were born, it was 90 percent away from it with just a little " tail " still covering it. Chances are, like me, you will have to have a c-section. Mine was a vertical incision and they had to complete a myo on one of the small roids and resect another just to get to Baby A. Baby B, my pent house baby, was camped out over the big roid and, I think, held on to it for dear life at birth -- pretty sure she was using it as a pillow!** > > I need some reassurance, which I have gotten here before, and even > the not-so-reassuring stories. I need the facts, whatever they may > be. Anyone in or have been in a similar situation? From what I have > read, the intra-uterine fibriods are not the best to have, but I > don't know much more. **Your fibroid is little for all intents and purposes and your baby is going to grow fast! No pain, no bleeding - great! If you have some degeneration it won't happen until around 20+ weeks, and your doc can admit you to get some pain meds if you need it -- the pain only hurts the mommy, baby doesn't feel a thing. Bleeding for some women is normal. Keep your OB aprised of any changes in your discharge, and she/he can belay any fears as needed! If you are anything like me, and are just not happy unless you are worrying about something, or solving some medical issue; then let me help redirect you . . . Worry about remembering to take your prenatal vitamin, drink your 10-12 glasses of water daily, eat your 5 veggies and 4 fruits, put your feet up everyday, let people help you around the house, walk, walk, walk, and, oh yeah, when all else fails, there's that memory thing that seems to go during pregnancy (and, let me tell you, doesn't get a lick better after birth!!) ~ . .. . ** > > Thank you for your help! I am so worried that the will cause pre- > term labor, or worse. **You are doing everything you can to give your baby the best environment to grow and develop. Don't feel like you are bugging your doctor if you have questions at 2 am on a Saturday after watching too many Birth Day stories on Discovery Health (DON'T do this!!!) --- they are used to getting asked all sorts of questions, and I am sure they will not only help reassure you, but will also remind you that a healthy mom (body AND mind) means a healthy baby. Try really, really hard to enjoy your pregnancy - it is really an amazing nine (or so) months. You have until menapause to worry about that stupid fibroid!** All my very best to you and the baby~ If you have more questions, or if I forgot something, let me know! Guest guest
, Thank you so much for the wonderful response It is very, very reassuring to hear from someone who has fibroids and had not only one, but TWO healty babies! Congratulations!!! I have two kids (3 1/2 and almost 2) and the thought of bedrest is not a plesant one, but luckily my mom lives around the corner. It's also hard to give up the 4X/week workout schedule, but I'll do whatever it takes to have a healthy baby. And, I'll handle the pain, if it comes to that and doesn't harm the baby. Thanks so much for sharing your story. I'll keep you posted on my roid's progress after my next u/s in three weeks! Kim
