Guest guest
I wish I had gone to this doctor first--maybe I would not have spent the past week crying off and on. The first thing I liked about the second doctor was that he seemed to take more time with me and he came off as more confident. The second doctor went ahead and did my gyn exam (the first doctor scheduled it for a week later.) The second also took my blood to check my iron today and had it done onsite (First doctor sent for the results taken two weeks ago). I brought the second doctor my ultrasounds (because the first doctor did not understand the description sent from the hospital, I thought the second doctor might have this problem also), but he also wants to do an ultrasound himself to determine if the fibroids are the cause of my bleeding and infertility (thus far) or if it's something else. Plus, he handles infertility issues as well. (The first doctor wanted to send me to a separate fertility doctor because she doesn't handle that " anymore. " She told my husband that this doctor would have his sperm checked first, and then if he checked out, the doctor would focus on me.) The second doctor does the ultrasounds at his office location and he does them himself! (The first doctor has someone else do them at another location--I found this out from another patient.) I told him that he was my second opinion, and I told him the other doctor recommended Lupron for 4-6 months and then myomectomy. He told me that he doesn't use Lupron when a woman still has many childbearing years ahead of her. He said that he doesn't like to shrink the fibroids because sometimes the smaller ones shrink so much that you cannot see them, and after you cease using the Lupron, they grow right back, and you could have gotten them with the first myomectomy. My husband asked about excessive bleeding during myomectomy (which the first doctor mentioned), and the second doctor said that he does not have that problem with the techniques he uses. Needless to say, I am going with the second doctor. Honestly, when the first doctor told me that my next period could be as bad as the last one and that I was at risk of bleeding to death or having an emergency operation, I have been worried, crying and unable to sleep through a night. The second doctor did not mention anything like that. I think tonight is the first night that I will sleep well since leaving the hospital.
