Guest guest
My biggest problem lately has not been the symptoms I'm having but trying to get more information - once again, thanks, thanks, thanks! to all of you. And here's another source I found now that I'm beginning to insist on answers. My doctor gave me a copy of my last sonogram report, done several years ago, so now I know why I was still so ignorant about my specific fibroids. The report said (quick translation) that I had a large lumpy uterus consistent with fibroids or maybe adenomyosis or maybe both; the technician couldn't find my ovaries and couldn't see into the uterine cavity. Big help. The doctor wanted to get a new sonogram using the same practitioner. I wanted to know why there was so little useful information from the last report and what we could hope to learn from another that would actually help with treatment plans. He said sonogram technology has improved. I think and hope it has, but I didn't feel satisfied with such vague reassurance. So I went to the sonogram lab, said I had questions I wanted to ask before the upcoming exam and I was willing to postpone it until I could get answers. A technician was available right then. She explained what might have caused the previous report to be so unehlpful, said she couldn't honestly say that technical improvements would be enough to provide better information, but told me what she could do to try for better resolution. Just getting some honest and direct feedback was a big help. Now I've had the exam, with that technician, who was very kind as well as skillful, and I have a whole lot more quite specific and useful information. It hasn't been easy for me to press for answers. But if I hadn't started doing so, and had just followed my doctor's initial advice I wouldn't even have had the sonogram; I'd already have been subjected to invasive treatment, which I know now may not be necessary. Or if I do decide I need to take that step, I will understand for myself why. Just want to encourage everyone to keep asking for what you need to know, and not just of doctors.
