Guest guest
In response to the question why some of us got pregnant with fibroids. This is why I got pregnant with fibroids: My doctor told me to do so, and I didn't know anything about fibroids she had just diagnosed. She didn't know much about them either. When I asked why I should get pregnant, she said, she got down on her knees and prayed that she could get pregnant at age 36 without fibroids. She thought I would have difficulty getting pregnant (I didn't,) she didn't know about degeneration (even when my pain was excruciating,) she said it wasn't the fibroids. She told me that pregnancy hurts, I must have the stomach flu, and then when my whole pelvic region began to hurt, she said I must also have hemmorids. Unbelivable! All along, I kept saying, " Don't you want to look at the fibroids. Remember, I started with two lemon sized fibroids. Could they be causing the pain? " She said that it couldn't be the fibroids. She is not alone in her ignorance. The OB/GYN's are lacking knowledge in this area. This lack of knowledge is totally unacceptable. Women with fibroids wishing to have children should be presented with all the information so they can make informed decisions as to whether to have a myomectomy prior to becoming pregnant. Every OB/Gyn should have basic knowledge of fibroids, and they should be able to at least know of some experts in all the treatments for fibroids. Before fibroids, I have never been referred to the yellow pages by a physician. They should know the experts in their field in their city. They should also know the new methods of treatment done by radiologists. Why I want to get pregnant without fibroids: Now, I am post pregnancy by 2 1/2 years. I want to get pregnant without the fibroids this time. I don't want the pain, fear of losing baby, or premature baby complications, or 6 months bedrest this time. I just had another MRI. I just heard back from my OB/GYN. She gave the report to my answering machine again (unbelieveable!) She offered to do an abdominal myomectomy since she is not trained to do it laprascopically. If it could be done with the scopes, why not a referal to someone who does this. Well I am definitly not going with her for the surgery since she told my answering machine after last year's MRI that she could attempt an abdominal myo, but I might bleed a lot and it would lead to a hysterectomy. All this on my machine on Christmas Eve, and she knows I want another child! I have been calling all the doctors in my city trying to find one I can trust will be successful in their surgery. It is difficult to get rid of these fibroids in order to get pregnant even when one has the mind set to do so! may I ask you why you didnt choose to go through myomectomy before getting pregnant
