Guest guest
Good morning ladies. This is my first post, but I have been reading since I was diagnosed with fibroids. I will sum my story up quickly. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis last year and no treatment action was taken. Well about a month ago things started getting really bad and my periods had gotten so heavy I could barely walk since my blood counts were so low. Since I had changed insurance companies because I had gone back to school to finish my PhD I had to visit the school medical clinic. They were very receptive to me and immediately recommended me to a new doctor calling to make sure they took my insurance. Unfortunately and fortunately, I had to go to a new doctor since my old doctor who had diagnosed me with adenomyosis (after an ultrasound and MRI) didn't take my insurance. The new doc took one look at my abdomen and said you have fibroids. He sent me for an ultrasound and bingo there they were. Is it normal for them to grow that fast? It was a year since my last ultrasound where they didn't find them and now they have grown. His only option was a myomectomy and after much research that is probably also the option I am choosing. My surgery is scheduled for St. Patty's Day. By the way I am 28 and no children and certainly want the option in the future as I have a wonderful boyfriend who has put up with so much. I am worried though. How many myomectomies become hysterctomies and what are the causes? Also I was prescribed the pill last year? Could this have contributed to the growth of the fibroids? Also I was wondering how long after a myomectomy can you walk again comfortably? My research entails field work which at this point is alot of walking in the woods and collecting data. How soon will I be able to return to my work? Luckily, I make my own schedule so it is up to me and classwork won't be difficult since it is all sit down work. Any suggestions or words of encouragement are appreciated. I have never had any surgery or been in the hospital, but my mother passed away from colon cancer 2 years ago and hospitals really scare me. Thanks so much. Becky
