Guest guest
< > I also had the same problem since I was diagnosed in 2000. For a while, I got prescription med from the doctor, including diflucon, but soon thereafter, I'd have the sam problem. I tried the over-the-counter stuff, too, stocking up in the States whenever I was home. Then I decided some natural remedies, like taking mega-acidophilus daily, the tea trea oil, lavender oil (one drop diluted, inserted on a tampon as with the tea tree oil, or in a sitz bath)... and I have been vaginitus-free for about 2 months now. I really think the mega-acidophilus helped a lot... just ran out so I hope to find some here soon...
Guest guest
Hello my dear, Your chronic infection story is very familiar to me. I did not have recurrent bacterial vaginitis; instead, I was plagued for several years with chronic vaginal yeast infections. They would usually be mild, but never seemed to disappear. I was given Diflocan several times (2 pills at a time) and it helped my infection clear up for several weeks. But usually after one month it would return. Finally I asked my doctor to describe why this was occurring. She suggested that I could have been contracting it from my husband, but that was not as likely as the real cause. She explained to me that whenever you are chronically bleeding (spotting or breakthrough bleeding every day) the low pH of the vagina's environment begins to rise and become less acidic and more neutral. Blood is a neutral pH. Yeast and bacteria grow best in neutral pH environments. Normally, when you are not bleeding every day, the vagina is very acidic to ward off infections. But if blood is present on a regular basis, (even in the smallest amount) then the vaginal tissues cannot control the population growth of the bacteria or yeasts that commonly reside in the vagina in smaller numbers. So even though you may treat your infection and clear it up for a while, if you are chronically bleeding from fibroids, the infection is likely to return. The bacteria and yeasts are not from a foreign place, they are normally on our skin and in our body's orifices (yes, I know... gross!) But when the environment is altered by a change in its own defenses, the critters can rapidly multiply and cause an infection. I was taking bc pills that did not keep me from spotting every day. I was on the highest safe dose available so I did not have a choice to try another type. I put up with the yeast infections taking Diflocan pills now and then, but finally had had enough. At that time I was told I had adenomyosis, did not know that fibroids were causing the bleeding. So I thought I had to live with the daily spotting. So after taking my pills continuously, I decided to go off of them for a few months, bought some over the counter yeast medication, and treated the site directly. At that time it worked. I then went to a specialist that discovered fibroids to be the cause of the bleeding. I have had them surgically removed, and now the infections have not returned. I am not bleeding between periods anymore! Back to normal, thank goodness! So if you have fibroids that are causing breakthrough bleeding on a regular basis, that could very well be the reason for why your infection is reoccurring. Ask your doctor if this is the case. And if you are not chronically bleeding, you may have other reasons for the bacteria infection's presence. Good luck, I hope you can have some relief! :)Sonja
Guest guest
< > Dang, Sonja, that makes sooo much sense!!!! Gosh, that makes sooooooo much sense! It's true that in the past few months, my gynecologist (a naturalist) put me on Vitex for three months, and within the first 2 weeks of taking it, the breakthrough bleeding stopped. At about the same time, the infections stopped. AAaahhhhh, good to know that! Thanks fro that piece of info!
