Guest guest
What does she mean by " may have to have surgery again " ??? I don't understand, she should be able to remove all of the fibroids once she in there. Maybe she is saying that there's a chance that fibroids may return and you may need a second surgery in the future. I am having a myo next month and my Dr. thinks that there are more fibroids than what the ultrasound and MRI show, but he assured me that he would be able to remove them ALL. Try not to worry until you get a full explanation from your doctor. Good luck. ----Original Message----- To: uterinefibroids uterinefibroids > Date: Wednesday, June 16, 2004 8:52 PM Subject: Changed my decision - Need encouragement I would welcome any help you can give me about questions I should ask my doctor at this visit so I'm making the right decision and can limit the number of surprises (if any) after surgery. I'm getting a little worried that she may try to talk me into a hyster or get me upset with worries about future surgery. (The fear of another major surgery is what made me decide on a hysterectomy in the first place.)
Guest guest
Hi, all: I was one of those who did not know what I didn't know about fibroids and myos vs. hysterectomy until I came on this website and read what all of you said. I am having abdominal surgery June 29 and this past weekend changed my mind from a hysterectomy to a myo. I called my doctor on Monday morning and told her to change the paperwork and make an appointment for me to come in and sign a new release. I completely trust my doctor -- she had originally recommended a myo but gave me the option of a hyster because I am past childbearing and some women choose that. However, now that I've changed my mind, she wants me to come in and discuss the procedure with her because she wants me to understand that since my fibroid is so large, she can't see on the ultrasound whether there is another one behind it and " you might have to have surgery again. " I'm sure when I go in and talk to her, she will explain it all, but it doesn't make sense. While she's in there, can't she take out all the fibroids she finds? Why a possible second surgery? I would welcome any help you can give me about questions I should ask my doctor at this visit so I'm making the right decision and can limit the number of surprises (if any) after surgery. I'm getting a little worried that she may try to talk me into a hyster or get me upset with worries about future surgery. Guest guest
Hi, This doesn't sound right at all. I can understand your confusion. I'd be asking your doc how many myos she has done, how often and how many needed to be turned into a hyst. Roma had 42 fibroids removed. Roma didn't need 42 myos, why does your doc think she needs 2 surgeries for 2 fibroids? Another woman says her doc is planning on taking out 40-50 in one surgery. It can be done and has many times. A skilled doc can take out large ones, small ones all at the same time. Yours is not too large to remove and have others removed too. Watch out for the " myo is bloody surgery " , it's not in the right hands. If your doc can't explain her resoning (lack of skill is not a reason - she should refer you to a doc who has the skills if your doc doesn't). Get the most skilled doc you can find for your surgery. Trust is earned.
