Hi Kim~

Congrats on your pregnancy!! I've been reading the responses to your initial

post and just thought I'd throw in a bit about my own experiece --- you can

find a lot of women's info through the archives, too.

I, like you, knew about my " invaders " before getting pregnant . . . they we

actually the reason we decided to ttc when we did. At the time I had three:

one intramural in the fundus, meas. 5x6cm, the other two, lower in the

myometrium and about grape size.

We got pg within a blink of an eye, and by eight weeks, I was already able to

" see " the large fibroid through my belly. I had a big bleed at ten weeks, which

sent me to the ER thinking miscarriage. Very scary! They removed a large clot

(about the size of your palm) and sent me to have an u/s to check on the

bambino. Turns out we were carrying twins . . . both of which were perfectly

happy floating around in my belly!

I had no pain associtaed with the bleed, and did continue to spot, passing one

more hefty clot on my own, throughout the next 6 weeks. I have had no

bleeding since.

We are now at 32 weeks with the girls, and my monster fibroid is now

measuring " approximately " 10x14cm. It is too long for the transducer to get

an accurate length, so the 14cm part is an educated guess!! Since about 20

weeks, a little piece of the placenta (looks like a tail) has been implanted

right

over the roid, which may explain why it has not fuilly degenerated -- but this

is

just a guess, too. In any event my babies seem to not have a care in the

world about this thing, swimming around it like it was their triplet!!! :)

This roid (which is located right under my now fully distended belly button), is

referred to as my distributer cap, and is, for the most part, still " alive " .

There

are spots of it that have degenerated and these areas can be seen on an u/s.

I have had only slight pain at around 26/27 weeks that I think could have

been the fibroid. It required me just laying down, staying hydrated and having

a good-ol' fashion hormone induced cry! :)~

I am, just this week, starting to have som pre-term labor symptoms --- but

nothing painful at all. Can't say this is a result of the fibroid, either, other

than

to say that my uterus is measuring that of a woman who would be 42 weeks

pregnant (and even this is not un-common for twin mommies at my

gestation).

I have been seeing an OB and a perinatologist throughout my pg, but am

NOT considered hi-risk because of the fibroids. It is only because I am having

twins, that they believe to be identical, that we were referred to the

specialist.

Soooooo, very long post short ...... Every woman and every pregnancy is

different! Many, many women with fibroids sail through without incident.

Knowing what to look for in terms of complications is great, but its even more

important to give yourself a break from all the " what-if's " and focus on the

" will

be's " . . . You're having a baby!!! And chances are (and statistics will show)

that the fibroid will effect you much more than it will effect the baby. Try to

enjoy this amazing experience, knowing that you are well educated, getting

good care and trust your body to let you know what it needs!

Congratulations again, and happy baby thoughts to you!

Keep writing with questions as they come up!!!

All my best,

:)

I am more worried than ever, but like I said, I can handle

pain--I just want a healthy baby!

Thank you, ! You give me a lot of hope. Twins!!! Wow, you must

have a lot of strength :)

A women on my TTC board is about 35 weeks with fibroids, and is just

starting have problems, i.e. severe pain. I told her to post on

this board, and if you see it (her name is ) I'm sure she'd

love to hear your success story. She's scared, and in a lot of pain.

But, baby is just fine.

I can handle the pain, just not anything happening to my baby. It's

good to know that the fibroid really mostly causes problems with

mother, NOT the baby. Thanks again, and I'll keep you posted! I have

my first u/s on March 9, around my 6 week mark, and I'll feel better

after I see where the baby has implanted, hopefully far away from my

fibroid.
