Guest guest
Hi, Aztec! PseudoDoc Roma here, reporting for her appointed rounds! Here are my thoughts about your bleeding. Spotting (or even outright bleeding) lasting anywhere from a few hours to several days MAY occur at the time of ovulation -- with or without pain. Note that sometimes pain may occur WITHOUT bleeding. This mid-cycle (bleeding and or pain)phenomenon is known as " Mittelschmertz. " As I understand it, at ovulation, 1) when a mature follicle ruptures, it releases an egg (which is, of course, contained in the follicle). 2) Sometimes this ovulatory event can make the follicle, (to quote one of your favorites, Elvis Presley), " All Shook Up " 3) Being " all shook up " may, in a given menstrual cycle, lead to a temporary decrease in estrogen. 4) Since the integrity of the lining of the uterus depends on estrogen, a dip in estrogen, even a small one, may lead to shedding of the uterine lining and some bleeding at ovulation. This kind of bleeding (and related pain) is NOT considered abnormal and may occur sometimes, always or never. I first had some mid-cycle bleeding in my mid thirties, and continue to have some type of spotting during most of my cycles. However, any and all bleeding BETWEEN periods really should be reported to, and evaluated by your doctor--- your REAL, FULLY CREDENTIALLED doctor, not a *MD* (medical dilettante), like the fraudulent (although well-intended) " Doctor " Roma! According to Dr. , even if your bleeding is determined to be " abnormal " (i.e., not related to mittelschmertz), DON'T PANIC--it's " almost always " " benign and easily treatable. " He writes in his book _A Gynecologist's Second Opinion_: " The most common causes are hormonal changes, ovarian cysts, uterine or cervical polyps, overgrowth of the uterine-lining cells (hyperplasia), fibroids, and rarely precancer or cancer of the uterus. " Hope this helps YOU from getting " all shook up. " ( ...Well, bless my soul, what's wrong with me? la lalalala etc. etc......:-) -Roma, A Medical AND Musical Dilettante In a message dated 3/10/2004 11:12:25 AM Eastern Standard Time, catrionabass@... writes: Anyone??? Problem: Bleeding half way cycle when I don't usually have bleeding problems. Why is this happening, what should I do and should I worry? Here's some more information that may or may not be relevant: (The ultrasound report of March 2003 gave the following measurements, types and positions.) I had an abdominal myomectomy in August last year. The surgeon removed a fibroid mass (that was 62mmx61mmx53mm) arising from the right aspect of the uterus. He left in 'at least one' small intra mural fiboid (of 14mm) present in the anterior wall. The endomerial thickness was in March 2003, within normal limits and regular appearance. The ovarian cyst (multi septated thin walled right ovary anechoic cyst) was found to have disappeared by itself when I was cut open. My periods have always been regular and normal. Heavy bleeding was not one of my fibroid symptoms. I am half-heartedly, warily taking iron tablets. My last period was 5 days late and this unexpected bleeding started on day 13 (sunday 7th March and continues) I haven't been on any exotic far flung foreign holidays (Unless you count a dentist's appointment and filling in Basingstoke :-) I am under no more stress than the usual stresses I've had for the past year and a half with fibroids. POP again, since around Nov or Dec of 2003 and no problems. No antibiotics except whatever they put in our supermarket foods. Dr Roma?.... Anyone?
