Guest guest
I have NO idea where this doc got her stats. Maybe from her OWN experience with performing myomectomies (and not removing ALL of them at the time????). Her assertion of " ...50 percent... " recurrence is NOT supported in the literature/research..... ************************* Understanding fibroid tumors, the primary reason for hysterectomies May 28, 2004 BY LAUREN STREICHER Q. I am scheduled to have a myomectomy to remove large fibroid tumors from my uterus. What are the chances that they will come back? A. Recurrence of fibroids after myomectomy is a certainty in 50 percent of women. Just because a fibroid comes back, however, doesn't mean that subsequent therapy will be necessary. Most studies show that women who undergo myomectomy require another surgery 10 percent to 25 percent of the time. read the rest here: http://www.suntimes.com/output/streicher/cst-ftr-obgyn28.html
Guest guest
I have to say this my fibroid tumors came back after mymomectomy. Less than five years. I have my surgery in Dec. of 98 and the tumors had came back first of last year. I read on one of the web sites that the tumors will come back. Guest guest
Ok, so you were one of the 20 - 30 % or so who have problematic fibroids grow back. That doesn't mean that EVERY woman who has a myomectomy will have recurrent fibroids. > I have to say this my fibroid tumors came back after mymomectomy. Less than > five years. Guest guest
Some women will get lucky and not have fibroids recur. When they do, their current life stage may make them open to explore other options than a repeat myo. > > I have to say this my fibroid tumors came back after mymomectomy. > Less than > > five years. Guest guest
yes, mine have also come back, about 10 years after my myo. I'm now in perimenopause, with no bad symptoms (such as bleeding or pain) so I'm taking a wait-and-see approach. Unfortunately, my current gyno (who is otherwise a wonderful doctor) has a " hysterectomy of course " approach.
