Guest guest
Hi Carla. I guess what I found most misleading about this is the limited listing of fibroid treatment options, which includes only " no treatment, myomectomy or complete hysterectomy " . I notice there's no reference to UFE, which is not surprising since the administration of Lupron would be not be appropriate prior to UFE. The Homepage is titled " Fibroids Info " , and most of the info is about fibroids, even though the running title page is " Lupron Depot " so I think the focus of the information is obviously fibroids. The Introduction also refers to " Lupron depot - a drug commonly used in the TREATMENT of uterine fibroids. " On the page headed Lupron Depot, most of the info is anemia - related but they also make the statement " Medical research has shown that Lupron can raise hemocrit levels and SHRINK THE SIZE OF FIBROIDS. " I think this is somewhat misleading since if shrinkage occurs it is only temporary and there is nothing further in this material which warns potential users about that. It also implies here that the drug can address " abdominal and pelvic pain, bloating and pressure. " Even if the drug can positively impact those symptoms, they are outside the approved use. I notice they've been careful to state that " you and your surgeon have chosen Lupron for the pre-operative improvement of your anemia caused by fibroids " - so they have specifically referred to the only approved FDA use for Lupron in the context of why " your doctor " would provide Lupron to you. I suppose they would argue that they are not misrepresenting anything since they have clearly stated the approved use for the drug. The unfortuante thing is that the ordinary consumer could certainly be confused, if not somewhat misled, by other information on the website. Again on the Lupron Depot page, it is implied that " your phsycian " will or should be giving you Lupron to " help you prepare for fibroid surgery " , yet many doctors - wasn't Dr West one of them? - oppose giving Lupron prior to myo since it can often make the fibroids more difficult to remove. That's a bit misleading since it almost impies there is some kind of standard medical practice around prescribing Lupron to women awaiting fibroid surgery, which isn't always the case. It's difficult for those of us who have been around fibroid information for so long to see this website with the eys of someone who is just beginning to research fibroids and their treatment options. But I think if I had no other information about fibroids other than this website, I would be left with the impression afte reading this that my only option for a uterus sparing treatment would be a myomectomy, that my doctor will prescribe this drug as part of the pre-operative treatment and that this drug alone could shrink fibroids.
