I was just recently diagnosed with two large and a

bunch of small fibroids in my uterus. Uterus is quite

enlarged and the fibroids are obscuring the view of my

left ovary - had the right one removed due to a

non-malignant cyst when I was <1 year old.

I have very few symptoms other than: belly sticks out,

little pain, little constipation, no wild bleeding.

My ob/gyn is great - he presented me with five

options:

Watch and wait

Embolization

Myomectomy - Done laproscopically

Hysterectomy - Done laproscopically

Hysterectomy with ovary removal as well - Done

laproscopically

I am 41, never had children and do not plan to.

My teo older sisters both have fibroids. One had a

large one removed via myomectomy and believes she has

new ones causing problems five years later.

I have searched the websites for material and

information, talked with as many women as I can, etc.

Amazed at the lack of clinical studies and real

statistics based on years of following patients. A

dreadful statement on women's healthcare in America.

So,I am confused and wait every day for the pain and

bleeding.

To complicate the matter, I am moving out of Chicago

in a few months and would prefer to act with a very

good MD here versus new home.

So, my question to the team is:

Am I crazy to consider actio when I am relatively

asymptomatic?

Seems a myomectomy, given family history and years

before menopause may only mean another surgery later.

That leads me to hysterectomy - with or without taking

the ovary. Need experiences from women who have had a

hysterectomy before 40 and took low dose estrogen. I

cannot mind many in this category who were not glad

they did. Greatly improved quality of life.

Charlene, Hello. I had a UFE (embolization about 4 1/2 weeks ago.

My symtoms were hemmoraging, gushing bleeding periods and

inbetween. I became very anemic due to blood loss by the time I got

in for the procedure. My symtoms were severe. I did have bulk

symtoms, peeing often, but this could take a few months or more to

improve. It's amazing to not bleed like that anymore and I'm

feeling great. I am 43 and have already had my kids.

On the other hand, you sound as if your symtoms are not severe at

all. What symtoms are you actually having? I wouldn't rush into

something just becuase you are moving! I found my IR through the

Embo group!!! (Here in CT) If you research, you will be able to

find a good doc whereever you move to! I played the watch and wait

game for 3 yrs before I had my 1st hemmoraging incident. I think

it's a good game to play, becuase it gives you time to research your

obtions and learn what you need to be aware as far as your symtoms.
