There are many good previous posts in the archives on hysterectomy –

including the subjects of hysterectomy and sexual function. See, for

instance, Carla’s post #44321 in the archives – or my post #44318 – which

references other previous posts you can look up. – And the “Baby Carriage

List” (the uterus is NOT just a baby carriage) which is post #13911 on this

list.

For those wanting to hear about “personal experiences,” there are at least 2

books out which contain many personal stories. They are Misinformed

Consent: Women's Stories About Unnecessary Hysterectomy - By Lise

Cloutier-Steele. – and Hysterectomy: The Best or Worst Thing that Ever

Happened to Me: A Collection of Women's Personal Experiences - By

Plourde. Both are good – of the two I personally prefer the Plourde book

because I find it to be better organized, less rambling, and more

even-handed.

I think the best overall book on the risks and side-effects of hysterectomy

is Your Guide to Hysterectomy, Ovary Removal, & Hormone Replacement: What

All Women Need to Know -By Plourde. The book which really made up

my mind (mostly because it was what I got my hands on first – but still I

found the first few chapters riveting & they totally convinced me NOT to

consider hyst – and I’m astounded how much of this stuff known in 1988 when

this book was published STILL isn’t known by many doctors): Hysterectomy:

Before and After Winnifred Cutler, PhD. HarperPerennial, 1988.

ABC 20/20 did a piece on sexual function and hysterectomy. There is some

info on their website:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/2020/Living/2020_Hysterectomy030822.html

On this list-groups site – under files – see: American Heart Association:

hysterectomy-pdf - near the top of the list of files there.

http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/files/

And – of course – if you haven’t yet read Carla Dionne’s book on fibroids –

DO:

Sex Lies and the Truth About Uterine Fibroids

Also the doctors Goodwin & Broder: What Your Doctor May Not Tell You About

Uterine Fibroids.

Best,

Pat
