Guest guest
You can find tons of " testimonials " on this kind of thing via www.hystersisters.com. As for myself, this was THE VERY REASON I avoided having a hysterectomy for over 4 years - fear of how it would change my sexual function. I'm sure you will get different stories from every woman you speak to. I'm happy to report that the big " O " still exists for me - !in multiple fashion! - even after the surgery (and yes, I kept my ovaries.) I feel very fortunate but ALSO I did tons of research and actually went to another town to have the best GYN I could find (with lots of laproscopic skills and on the AAGL.org list) and I think that goes a LONG way to how well I've healed and how few problems I've had (actually I've had none) since my surgery. Please let me know if you need other info. Best of luck in your decision making process. I had hoped to avoid the " big H " but due to all sorts of problems (in addition to fibroids, the worst being adhesions and endometriosis) it was the better choice for me and I'm so grateful I did it - I feel reborn! I had normalized something that was truly not normal - clots the size of my head, severe anemia, AND chronic severe abdominal pain. angela > Does anyone know from personal experience or from someone close to them > whether having a hysterectomy (no ovaries removed) affects the ability to or the > quality of orgasms? > > I appreciate any information on this. > > Holly
Guest guest
Holly, I opted for UAE but when I was having all my bleeding problems a friend had had similar problems and opted for Hysterectomy. She says that It hasn't changed her sexual response and ability to achieve orgasm. She did not have cervix or ovaries removed. Hope this helps Carmon > Does anyone know from personal experience or from someone close to them > whether having a hysterectomy (no ovaries removed) affects the ability to or the > quality of orgasms? > > I appreciate any information on this. > > Holly
Guest guest
I may have to go through this and would also be interested in hearing from other women who already have. Thanks in advance. Guest guest
Holly I close friend of mine had a hyst two years ago. She said she didn't know what a uterine orgasm was, had never had one. so wasn't concerned about losing this ability. Afterward, she admitted she felt something was missing from her response, so had probably been having uterine contractions without realizing it. However, she still has clitoral response (sorry to be so graphic) and is reasonably satisfied. She had so many problems beforehand that to her it was a fair trade-off. They did find cancerous cells in her uterus afterward, so she doesn't question her decision. -Mindy > Does anyone know from personal experience or from someone close to them > whether having a hysterectomy (no ovaries removed) affects the ability to or the > quality of orgasms? > > I appreciate any information on this. > > Holly
Guest guest
Hey Holly, I am happy to say that I personally have noticed no difference. Sex is as GOOD AS EVER! I had a myo converted to a total hysterectomy (my ovaries were left) on December 4th. > Does anyone know from personal experience or from someone close to them > whether having a hysterectomy (no ovaries removed) affects the ability to or the > quality of orgasms? > > I appreciate any information on this. > > Holly
Guest guest
Holly, I don't think knowing how many women do notice a difference in sexual response after a hysterectomy and how many don't is really going to be useful to you. The big problem at this point is that we can't predict WHICH women will have a problem following hysterectomy. I hate to say it, but it's a crap shoot. A more skilled surgeon who has an awareness of where the nerves and blood vessels are located is a better bet but even with that, there can still be poor outcomes. I wish the answer were different. We desperately need some good prospective research to answer this question. Generally, most of the research that we hear about asks women AFTER their hysterectomies how sex is compared to RIGHT BEFORE their hysterectomies. It's not a great surprise then to find that many women report it is better...after all, if their health situation was bad enough for them to have a hysterectomy in the first place, one would expect that their sex lives at that point were not too great! We need a large study over a long period of time that follows a group of women from BEFORE they are having GYN problems through whatever problems some of them develop, and then beyond the treatment they receive. Every year or two, these women should be questioned about how their sex lives are, in detail. Then we can compare how these women rate sex following a hysterectomy to how they rated it WHEN they were healthy. THAT'S the real question...is it as good as it was when I was healthy? Guest guest
Thanks to all of you for the responses to my question. I am going to a woman Dr. tomorrow for a second opinion. I love my current doctor, but I guess I just feel the need to speak with a woman physician who might understand my concerns better. I'll keep you posted.
