To D: Sex, exercise and fibroids

Hi .

I lived without knowing about my 'potato' for a number of years (probably 4 or

so) before diagnosis. During that time I regularly exercised and enjoyed my sex

life with my husband. After I was diagnosed, I worried that perhaps my husband

would be able to 'feel' the fibroids but despite asking him many many times

about it, he said no, he wasn't aware of it. I think you're in the exact same

place right now & need to understand - it's been there all along and didn't

affect what you were doing and feeling together? So what is different now?

It's in your head - you need to come to terms with the fact that the fibroid(s)

are part of your body. As you go through your process of coming to terms with

what you have and what you might or might not chose to do, at the risk of

sounding very opinionated I have to say that the best thing you can do for

yourself psychologically is accept their presence, and try not to feel 'icky'.

It will just get in your way and make you miserable. The only things that

SHOULD make you miserable are symptoms. That's what you have to deal with.

As far as exercise goes, keep going! You can't affect the fibroids. They do

not bounce up and down in step class. If you stop exercising, you are only

going to get out of shape and suffer the consequences and feel even worse about

yourself than you do right now.

I hope my sense of perspective makes sense to you. .... and to answer one of

your questions, oh my goodness YES it's normal to have these feelings!!!!

best,

laurie g.
