Guest guest
Hi all - I want to share a conversation I had recently with an aquaintance that underwent a hysterectomy to treat her fibroids. She had experienced tremendous pain on two occassions prior to her hysterectomy. She told me that " fibroids sometimes leak, and this was the pain I was feeling " . Leak what, I wondered? I asked her how she knew that fibroids leak and she said that her doctor told her that! Has anyone ever read, heard, etc. that statement???? I sure haven't. Then she told me that she decided hysterectomy was for her because she knew that fibroids " made " alot of estrogen and she just knew that " all that extra estrogen " was very bad for her system. She believed that by getting rid of the fibroids and uterus, she would be eliminating the estrogen. I told her that ovaries make hormones and that fibroids are fed by estrogen, but don't " make " their own supply. She adamantly disagreed. Here's the topper, she is an R.N.! She works in the pediatric ward of the hospital. Is is possible that even nurses are uninformed when it comes to fibroids??
