Guest guest Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 , fatigue is a factor for me. It started from the onset and hasn't gone away. Its just a sleepy feeling so I do lay down after lunch and rest my eyes................it helps to get some cat naps in during the day to do what I have to get done. I been on a multi vitimin and eat a good health diet but nothing helps but rest...................the feet issue I don't have never did but since you sit a lot that might be the problem but always check with your doctor. Just because you have PLS dosen't mean you can't get something else. so just tell your doctor to get things checked out.....................Hope to see you at the Women's Retreat in Tampa,Florida in October..........Flora/Florida Quote

Oh yes, fatigue is a part of having PLS. I have always had that tired feeling, and when I do I stop!!! I call it listening to my body. For me the less I do, he better I feel. Fortunately I ave a husband who does it all for me, so I do less strenuous activities that help keep my sanity. Rita Quote
Guest guest Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I experience the same thing when we have warm weather, or I am standing with the walker too long. I have a recliner chair so that definitely helps take down the swelling. Hope you are able to find a solution from others on this group. Take care . Jo. pls-ers hi, i have one more question. i'm from georgia and since the wrather is warm, my feet are swelling. i am sitting more and more as pls progresses and am thinking about going to my family dr. it's hard to know what is pls or just old age! i'm a young 66! have other women experienced this also, is this a norm for pls? if so, what are you doing about it?.........denise Quote

Guest guest Posted June 14, 2006 Report Posted June 14, 2006 I havent heard of any PLSer here who uses a neck brace but many or some of us do have neck pain which comes from not using our bodies properly when we walk. If you use a walker, try and look ahead and not down and dont spend too much time on the computer. That stops my neck pain. Aussie Maureen > > hi, when i go to the als clinic for my check-up, i usually see als patients with neck braces. i was just wondering if pls patients ever have to use a neck brace. just curious. denise > Quote
Guest guest Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 Hi , I DID meet a PLSer with a neck brace at a meeting at Northwestern in Chicago in June, 2005. She was also wheelchair-bound and had limited speaking ability. I'm PLS-affected on the left side of from the top of my head to my toes (little deterioration of speech), and my neck is definitely weaker than it once was. I can't sit in the first row of a theater holding my head tilted back, and when I ride in a car, stopping and starting, I have trouble bringing my head to upright position. Also, I've started hunching forward. I just asked my physiatrist about this, he tested me by pushing my head backward and forward, said my neck was strong enough, that I didn't need a brace. He said that I shouldn't, in fact, wear one because that would allow the muscles to weaken. I KNOW that my neck is weak, despite the tests, so I exercise it by raising and lowering my head. Hoping to stay upright and unbraced! --Mata > > hi, when i go to the als clinic for my check-up, i usually see als patients with neck braces. i was just wondering if pls patients ever have to use a neck brace. just curious. denise > Quote
Guest guest Posted June 15, 2006 Report Posted June 15, 2006 very interesting, you are the first person to make this claim.. i think because i use a walker and look down all the time my muscles are not being excersised by holding my head in an up-right position. " just a theroy.
