You poor thing, this must be very stressful for you. Here is a big

*hug*

What are your symptoms? Bleeding, pressure, urinary frequency,

problem with the ureters/kidneys, etc? Did you consult with an RE

because you have fertility problems or just to have a specialist in

the baby making-uterus saving business?

If it were me, and assuming that you don't have bad symptoms, then I

would try to avoid the surgery. Otherwise it sounds very likely that

you will have a hysterectomy and then your options are child-free

living, adoption or using a surrogate.

We have male factor issues and I have a 6x6.5x9cm fibroid. I'm

undergoing accupuncture treatment right now, am taking chinese herbs

meant to help dissolve tumors, have made dietary changes and am

trying my hardest to conceive without intervention.

You may be interested to know that there was a pilot study done that

showed that that Chinese medicine, acupuncture and other alternative

therapies could result in fibroid shrinkage, and resolution of

symptoms -- comparable and many times better than conventional

medical treatment of fibroids. I found mention of it in " What Your

Doctor May Not Tell You About Fibroids " , where they said that it was

the only study of alternative treatments that they had come across

that was done in the proper manner to have good results. Here in

Washington State we have health insurance coverage for these types of

treatments so it isn't as expensive as having to do it on your own.

If your symptoms aren't horrible then you might want to give it a go.

Here is a link to the study report:

Treatment of Uterine Fibroids with Complementary Medicine

http://www.healing-arts.org/fibroids.htm

(the end of the report explains the mind-body work that was done

which is interesting to read as well)

> A myomectomy is kind of crazy in my situation. He definitely talked

about hysterectomy. No way he could get rid of ALL the bad stuff, I'd

have no uterus left. None. Thing is, I have no kids, I'm 35, and my

boyfriend and I want to try to conceive. So that would mean a

huge " partial " myomectomy surg, then a c-section baby IF lucky (call

it a miracle), then likely, a hysterectomy.

Could you post your RE's contact info? I am also in Chicago, will be

35 in May, have no children, and am facing a myo. I am currently

seeing an MD at Nortwestern, but think it may be time for a second

opinion.

Thank you
