Guest guest
Hello. I have been reading the posts in this group for a few weeks and they have been very informative. I am scheduled for an abdominal Myomectomy on May 18th and I want to make sure I have made the right decison. Here is my situation: I have several fibroids - all on the outside of my uterus. The largest are 10.3 cm, 9.2 cm and 3.6 cm. Multiple smaller fibroids are also noted measuring 2.2 cm in greatest diameter. My symptoms are not terrible. I have occasional sharp pain, it lasts a few seconds and is worst when someone presses on my abdomen - (if my friend's kid puts her head in my lap for example. I also havesome dull pain like minor menstrual cramps and I have to urinate more often than most people. I could live with all this though. The main reason I am planning on having the Myomectomy is that I would like to conceive and my RE said I would most likely experience pre-term labor if I were to get pregnant without the surgery. However I have seen 3 other Doctors and 2 of them have said I could try without it. I am in my 40's though so I can't really afford to try and fail and then have the myomectomy. I am terrified of the surgery and it would be very hard for me to stop work for 4 weeks as I am self employed and make no income when I don't work. So, do you think I should have the surgery? Can anyone calm my fears? Can I go back to work in 2 weeks if I don't do anything vigorous? Finally, how can I be sure I have the right surgeon for the job? The RE I am planning on using seems very confident and says he and his partner do 15 of these a year - is that a lot - I just don't know. I'd appreciate any feedback. Thanks. Guest guest
Hey Alison, I have a myo scheduled for May 19, and Im scared too...although Im not having the myo bcuz im thinking about having children in the future..im having this surgery mainly becuz I have had horrible cramps every since I started my period at 12..and I just cant take it anymore..I wanted a hysterectomy..just to not have a period at all..but im 29 & what doctor would do that...anyway I just need to get these fibroids out of me to see if they're really the problem..My doctor told me to get the surgery becuz I might want to have kids one day, and i wouldn't want the fibroids to get in the way of that, she said that fibroids are a big cause of miscarriages..So, I say Its up to you to have the surgery. Also, I read that if the fibroids dont really bother you..leave them alone!!
Guest guest
Hey there Here is my story. I will be 40 in September and have had fibroids for a while which caused three miscarriages in one year. I had the myomectomy surgery because we would like to conceive. I was also very anemic and not only had to do the Lupron therapy but IV injections as well before the surgery. The decision for me was easy. My RE had told me that the fibroids were causing the miscarriages. She had also ensured me that she would be able to preserve my fertility and that the chances would be good that I would be able to carry a baby to full term after the surgery. I had my abdominal myomectomy February 19th. I'll never say that it was the easiest thing I have done but I will say that if it assisted me in having the family I want it is worth it. Ultimately you have to make your own decision about the surgery. Remeber not to be hasty about any decision and really do your homework. I read a lot, received good advice from people on this board that had been through similar situations and prayed a lot. I was back to work after three weeks and we are on our first ovulation cycle. Our RE has given the okay to start trying again. Regardless of what happens, I am just really glad to be at this station of life. It's like I left all of that pain and suffering behind to move into a new day. Feel free to email me with questions anytime. > Hello.
