I am actually seeing two different gynos right now and they both told me that it could not be caused by my fibroid because my colon is on my left side and my fibroid on my right. I completely disagree with them but have yet to find a solution. Please let me know if your doctor responds differently. Best, : Your gynos say that the colon is on the LEFT side? Well, yes, PART of the colon is on the left side (the descending part), but the colon also is on the right side (the ascending colon) and it also runs across horizontally (the transverse part of the colon). The colon is the last six FEET of the intestine. So depending on the size of your fibroid, it could be compressing a part of your colon. This is something that an ultrasound wouldn't show--but MRI or CT (which, however is not a good test for fibroid imaging) could reveal. Check out the illustration on this website (the colon is in purple). http://vanderbiltowc.wellsource.com/dh/content.asp?ID=574 BTW, Your altered bowel function (constipation alternating with diarrhea) sounds a lot like the classic (and very treatable) Irritable Bowel Syndrome, which is very, very common among Fibroidians----(AS WELL AS our NON-Fibroidian peers). -Roma
