Hi all:

I have a 4.5 cm submucousal fibroid along with a smaller intramural

one. My doc recommended hysterectomy, but I said NO, there's got to

be something else that can be done. Well, I've been on birth

control pills now-in the 2nd pack-and have started breakthrough

bleeding on pill days 12, 13, 14, 15 and now 16. I know this is one

of the side effects of the pill, but how long should I keep taking

them to see if it'll go away? My bleeding lessened to 8 days

instead of 10 last month (the first month) and my bloating/cramps

were drastically reduced. I have already seen an IR and decided that

UAE is not for me. I have an appt. with a RE in July to see about a

myo to remove the larger one. I have also been taking iron daily as

I was anemic too. I had bloodwork done last week since I've been on

the iron for 6 weeks to see what my levels are at but I haven't

found out yet. Any advice?

Thanks,

Lori

Hey Lori, May I ask you this, " Why don't you want to do the UAE? " I had a

myo in 1998 and the gyn removed all of my tumors and they came back to me

last year and at that they came with full force. My tumor is the size of a

newborn baby's head. Sorry I cant give you cm sizes I have never been told

cm size. I have always been told in weeks or describing something to me.

They consider the tumor and uterus to be 20 weeks. Myself I will do anything

other than a myo or hyst to tried to help me get rid of my symptoms of the

fibroids. Best of luck in whatever you decide. Keep us posted.

Hi Lori,

Why don't you find out about having the submucosal fibroid

removed by hysteroscopy? They are usually the ones that bleed. Maybe

you'll find you can leave the intramural one alone.

Hi Cheryl and :

I do have an appt. with an RE (Reproductive Endocrinologist) in July

that specialized in all kinds of myomectomies, including

hysteroscopy. I made a mistake, it's 5.4 cm, pressing into the

outer part of my uterus. My gyno was concerned that if he did the

hysteroscopy he might " nick " my uterus and do more damage than he

could contain, that's why he recommended the RE. My main concern

right now is the breakthrough bleeding using the pill. Do you have

any knowledge about that? Also, I'm 40 years old and want the most

minimally invasive procedure possible, which I think is the

hysteroscopy versus the UAE at this time. I'll know more details

after my appt. in July with the RE. Then I can make a decision

based on how much downtime is needed (I have 3 kids and a husband

that travels a lot). Plus, I'm a big baby when it comes to pain,

and from what I've read on the UAE Groups, that procedure sounds

extremely painful and I don't do well with pain medication ever.

Thank you for replying to my post. I appreciate all of the advice

I've read on these posts.

Hello Lori,

I agree with Cheryl. If your intramural fib is small and not causing any

short-term symptoms, it is possible to have the symptomatic submucosal fib

removed via hysteroscopic resection.

I had multiple submucosal fibs that caused life-threatening symptoms. My RE

removed them via resection surgeries (it took several since I had so many

fibs) and now I have no more uterine problems. He did discover that I do

have a small intramural fib (1.5cm) that may have to be removed in the

future. But for now, I am currently TTC* for the first time, living without

any bleeding problems, no more anemia, and feeling great! The resections

were so worthwhile! I would highly recommend them.

If you are interested in this surgical option, make sure you go with a

surgeon who is highly skilled at resections. Most REs have plenty of

experience. And even if you are not wanting a pregnancy, you can still see

a RE for treatment.

Please feel free to e-maial me off the list if you like. Just be sure to

include " uterine fibroids " in the subject bar so I don't erase an

unrecognized message.

Good luck,

:)Sonja
