I am interested in hearing from anyone who has had the procedure.

How painful is it? I have heard some have to be admitted for pain

control. Is there a possibility they cannot get all fibroids. Does

it depend on the size and location? If these questions have all

ready been answered, I am new, so direct me to the correct post. Has

anyone had partial hysterectomy thru the belly button leaving the

cervix? Thanks

M,

I've had an embolization (or UAE as it's called) about 16 months ago. For me

it was very successful. I had smallish fibroids but they caused me a great

deal of bleeding, clotting and long periods, etc. The procedure is not bad at

all. It was a one night hospital stay and back home the next day. No visible

incision and not much pain at all for me. I recovered pretty quickly at home

and by 1 week after the UAE, I was pretty much 100% normal. Sometimes the

results are slow to achieve, so you have to be patient. My periods gradually

improved over the course of about 3 to 6 months. I am very glad to have done it

since I was done having children but not willing to have a hysterectomy.

You might consider joining the Yahoo group called " embo " to talk to a lot of

other women who are contemplating or have had the UAE already.

Good luck to you.

,

check out the yahoo embo group. These women (including myself) have

been through embolization or will be going through it. You can get

a wealth of support an info from the group.

I had my UFE 1/30 and am doing extremely well. I had a 10 cm

fibroid and by 7 weeks post, it shrunk at least 3 cms. My IR was

very pleased and so was I. My symtoms were extreme bleeding

gushing, hemmoraging. Other symtoms, frequent peeing and occasional

constapation. It's been about 9 weeks now and am beginning to

notice a difference in the peeing frequency!!. A lot less urge. I

think I had some slight pain with intercourse but didn't realize

what this was until now. No more pain and sex is better than ever!

Now I know, that the fibroid was effecting sex!! I've had 2 periods

and they have been extremely managable. So far, I'm doing great.

The fibroid takes a good 6 months to a year and even more to really

shrink so the bulk symtoms you are suffering will take more time.

Some women report instant results, but I think the majority improve

over time. Of course, for the bleeders, there is an immediate

improvement. Good luck and I hope we chat next door, at the embo

group. Jen

Hi Cheryl,

No we don't. I was diagnosed with fibroids six months after we married and the

specialist I saw recommended that if we wanted children that we have them in the

next year, two years at the most. We were not ready for that, and over the next

three years I had several friends who had significant problems during pregnancy

(one friend's baby only lived five days, while another had a child who had a

stroke while in the womb), plus my sister had a baby with a craniosinostisis.

Consequently, we decided we didn't want to risk a pregnancy that might not go to

term. I have reconciled myself to being a super aunt rather than a mother.

Re: Embolization

Do you have children & if not do you want them? My doctor & alot of women on

this group have suggested that not enough research has been done regarding UFE &

fertility. This is why my doctor suggested myomectomy - preserves your

fertility.
