Guest guest
I recently had a hysterscopic resection of a 3.8cm submucous fibroid. I had a follow up appointment and my doctor told me that I need to have a second resection as he was only able to get about 1/2 of the fibroid. Has anyone had this same type of experience with a resection? I was aware that there was a risk that the doctor would not be able to get the entire fibroid, but was slightly upset to find out he only got half of it (especially as he told me he got 80- 90% of it after the surgery was complete). Is it possible that the fibroid is growing back so quickly? I had the surgery at the end of January. Thanks!

Guest guest
I am going through something very similar. I had a 4cm fibroid removed last October (03) and need to have another resection. I am in the midst of schedualing the resection for sometime in April. Mine isn't the " same " fibroid but it is very close to the area of the 1st fibroid. My RE told me and showed me pictures of the 1st fibroid it was totally removed and my uterus looked free of fibroids. I hadn't had a " normal " period since the resection and went last week to my RE and see what was up. He did a saline sonogram and found a 3cm and another tiny one starting. So to answer your question YES it can grow that quickly. Your doctor should have told you the truth about only removing 1/2 instead of the 80-90% that he told you. But it doesn't matter if the " whole " (I hate fractions ) fibroid isn't removed it will grow back. Ask your doctor to show you the before and after pictures. And ask more questions before you rescheduale your resection. I know I have a few more. Good Luck!
