Guest guest
Hi, Ladies- This is completely off topic, but I have noticed that many of us here seem to be pet lovers. Since the discussion has turned to " Procrit " , I'm passing this info along in the hopes that it might benefit someone. When one of my most beloved cats was discovered to be in the final stages of kidney disease, I was advised to put her to sleep. Luckily, I found a brilliant vet who prescribed PROCRIT for her! (contrary to popular belief, in the tiny doses necessary for a kitty, it is ridiculously cheap- something like $4 per shot). Although " Kisses " did eventually pass on, we succeeded in upping her red blood cell count and thus were able to give her several more months of QUALITY, energetic life. Just thought I'd pass along the info. Don't know how appropriate it is for fibroid-related anemia, but I personally am very grateful for procrit! Guest guest
ok, had to chime in here. yes, we use procrit in cats. in chronic renal failure cats don't make enough of the hormone (erythropoeitin) to stimulate their bone marrow to make red blood cells. Usually there is enough iron stores in the bone marrow, because they are not LOSING red blood cells, they just can't make enough. Its the anemia of chronic disease, not blood loss anemia. Actually, it can be both, because some kitties have some chronic blood loss too thur their urinary tract, so sometimes they need iron injections too. Its cheap too but not with out potential complications as is the case with most medical procedures. We need cat pro crit.
