Guest guest
Hiya Pat & everybody -- do you have the cite for the one study showing higher rate of heart disease even w/o removing ovaries during hysterectomy? And the others showing premature ovarian " failure " ? I have tried to find cites for this info without a lot of success. I saw a hot-shot young cardiologist who specializes in womens' heart health just before my myo (for, as it turned out, a totally innocuous glitch on my pre-op EKG). We had a conversation about this topic, she was very interested but had not heard of this info, and I would like to be able to send it to her. She told me that there is also some data showing that menopausal changes in hormone production are NOT a factor in heart disease (that it's more a factor of aging) but that these studies are not well known or publicized. She wasn't advocating for this position, just mentioning that there is actually conflicting info out there. Just FYI. Sunny

Please see the American Heart Association .pdf file located here: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/uterinefibroids/files/ This monograph references the following 3 major women's health studies -- I have the citations here somewhere...and will post when I locate them...unless someone else can do it first. Reading the monograph and searching on pubmed might also get you the citations faster than my digging through piles of research here! check out this citation from 1982: Prostacyclin from the uterus and woman's cardiovascular advantage. Shelton D. Prostaglandins Leukot Med. 1982 May;8(5):459-66. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstra\ ct&list_uids=7048335 and I really like this one...a real forboding study definitely preceding the WHI/HRT studies/results currently playing themselves out.... Menopause and coronary heart disease. The Framingham Study. Gordon T, Kannel WB, Hjortland MC, McNamara PM. Ann Intern Med. 1978 Aug;89(2):157-61. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstra\ ct&list_uids=677576
