Guest guest
The differential dx of blood in stool is contains various etiologies. One possible etiology is severe reactions to food (eg, milk and/or gluten). If that's the situation for your son, antibiotics may exacerbate his gi problems. chan2shawn wrote: > >My son is 3 years old. Guest guest
It might be a very good idea to start the GF/CF diet. Our son had diarrhea for a long time (more than four months). The only thing that helped him get regular was GF/CF. For sure you should report what you are seeing to your son's doctor. How does the blood look? Is it stain-y looking? Is it sort of stringy looking trapped or suspended in mucous? In the meantime, depending upon how much blood is showing up I would stop everything supplement-wise for at least a few days to see if this can decrease the amount of blood. If it does then re-evaluate your method of dispensing them and seriously be cautiously slow at adding anything back in. One at a time per day to see if one might be causing irritation. I understand your post completely. Speaking for myself, antibiotics can physically be hard on the linings of the digestive tract themselves if they aren't flushed through with liquids. You may or may not know that you also need to follow antibiotics up with probiotics which are available at the health food store. I have no significant experience with them, but I do know that enzymes are often used in meat tenderizers. I could not tolerate any of them at all. Can you associate the appearance of the blood with anything new you have added in? Is there a possibility that he has swallowed something non-food? Does he consume foods with sharp edges like French fries or potato chips, or even bacon? Hope this helps [ ] blood in stool My son is 3 years old. He is having diarrhea for past 4 months now for about a month he is having blood in his diarrhea. We gave antibiotic for bacteria but still the blood is coming and he is going 4 or 5 times daily. He is loosing weight and I don't know what to do? We havin'tchanged any food and he is in Kirkman enzymes. He drinks rice milk only.I would appreciate any advice. Guest guest
you might try the specific carbohydrate diet - if he's getting too many starches on gfcf, they turn to sugar and feed all the nasty bugs. A lot of kids apprarently do well on the SCD who don't respond to GFCF. > > Thank you for all the replies. His stool has mucus and blood with > mucus. He is in GFCF diet.I have stoped all the enzymes and > supplements two days back.Probiotics he was taking for about a year > when we went on vacation in augest I didn't take it and havin't > given him after that.I tried it last week and the diarreha with > blood got worst so I stoped.I got GI appoinment in January only.On > monday I'll go and ask my doctor for another GI doctor. > > Chan >

Guest guest
If you can't get in with a GI doc earlier, consider taking him to the ER. If he is emergent status they will be able to get him in quickly, and with the symptoms you describe I would not be comfortable waiting until January. Has your dr run any tests? -Sara. Guest guest
>His stool has mucus and blood with >mucus. If you are seeing a lot of blood then it is a good idea to seek priority treatment wherever. Sooner than later. A couple things to add. First, have you taken a close examination of his bottom? If it is inflamed or very raw it could be that the blood is coming from that. Also, look and be sure that there isn't a small, external tear in his tissue down there. Look very carefully including in the numerous folds. I wonder about the amount of blood you are seeing. Can you tell if it's brown or red? Is he actually stooling, running thin and watery or are you seeing a sort of puffy bowel movement? Are you seeing something close to what you are putting into him volume-wise coming back out? What about the actual organic volume of what you have been seeing? Are things generally watery thin or thick and bulky, but lacking firmness? Does everything coming out look modestly digested to some extent or is everything sheared apart and watery like his digestive system might be over-working the food? You don't have to share this if you don't want, but these types of observations are helpful to your doctor if you can make them. He is in GFCF diet. How long and how regimented? We saw improvements in our son's BMs in a couple of weeks. The BMs didn't get consistent though until we identified soy products as an additional offending foodstuff. Probiotics he was taking for about a year when we went on vacation in augest I didn't take it and havin't given him after that.I tried it last week and the diarreha with blood got worst so I stoped. What kind were you using? How frequent? Generally friendly bacteria aren't going to cause bleeding as far as I know. Quite a number of probiotics actually contain casein. Even in trace amounts casein and gluten for our sone they are irritating and cause loose bowels. I got GI appoinment in January only.On monday I'll go and ask my doctor for another GI doctor. Guest guest
Are the poops unusually large and firm? If so, what is probably happening is that the lining of the colon is getting " scraped " as she poops, I actually used to have this happen to me quite a lot when I was younger, it's like if you scrape your elbow or knee, you get a bit of blood. And a larger size of the poop would naturally cause a bit of pain. > > We had to take a break from chelation for a few weeks as we are having > a difficult time getting rid of the yeast overgrowth we got during our > neutrophil plus trial. Guest guest
I am having a similiar problem with my daughter. We have done 4 rounds of ALA and each time she seems to have more of a problem with constipation. Currently she is one week since the last round and is having severe constipation. Sunday night she had a hard large BM with a little blood on the toilet paper. It hurt so much that now she does not want to go again. I tried giving her more magnesium and the result was sucking on her lip again (she does not tolerate much). She has been drinking more water but she could not/would not have a BM this morning. I was going to try giving her mineral oil again that was sucessful 6 months ago when she was fearful of having BMs. But I am assuming I need to stop chealating until this problem goes away because the mercury pulled out is in the stool? If this is increased yeast should I give her something stronger than GSE? Guest guest
No, that's the wierd thing! They are mushy, sometimes formed, but never hard. Thanks! Guest guest
Vit C is a good stool loosener. Danasview.net has lots of constipation ideas... Guest guest
I shudder to ask - how do I check? Thanks Wyndie > > Have you checked for an internal hemorrhoid? Those are NASTY! > > Dana >
Guest guest
A doctor checks this. Some folks (particularly ones with constipation issues) get a tear in their intestine or form a hemmoroid deep inside. A good doc knows how to look inside. Treatment options include treating the constipation and using suppositories so that the body will heal. Wyndie <twncmileski@...> wrote: I shudder to ask - how do I check? I coated my finger with Preparation H and did some " exploring " . I sure felt it LOL But the Preparation H worked to eliminate it. Guest guest
I give her 2 drops of GSE daily and AFP Peptizyde and zyme prime with each meal. I have not tried No Fenol. How much GSE can a 34 lb 5 year old have? Jen > > I am having a similiar problem with my daughter.
