Hi everyone!

I'm now 4 days post-op from my myo and I just wanted to share some

of my experinces with anyone else who's about to go under the knife.

I had decided on an epidural and heavy sedation instead of general

anesthetic. The most painful part of pre-op was actually the

lidocaine injection they put into my hand prior to the heplock! The

epidural didn't hurt at all.

My surgery went very well. The doctor took out the big fibroid as

well as 3 others. She found no endometriosis and no damage to other

organs. And she didn't use staples (whew!). The only complication

at all was that the epidural wasn't working on my right side so not

only was my left side very numb, but my right side was VERY painful.

After trying many different drugs, we discovered that Oxycodone

worked the best with the least side effects.

I was extremely lucky in that since I used to work at the hospital

where I was operated on and I knew a lot of the staff there, they

put me into a private room. That was VERY helpful.

Anyway, here are some things I have learned that I would like to

pass on to you all:

1.The more pillows you use around you, the better.

2.Bring a CD/cassette player with relaxation CDs or soft relaxing

music. (hospitals are NOISY and no matter how sleepy you are, it's

difficult to sleep)

3.When you are recovering in the hospital, remember to take deep

breaths, often.

4. Drink TONS of liquids in the hospital

5. A maternity belt is your new best friend!!

6. Learn to use your arms and legs to move yourself instead of your

stomach muscles.

If anyone has any questions they like to ask me, feel free to email

me directly at tsamelliott@...
