Dear Group,

My first ultrasound was in Oct 2001, and the largest single fibroid was 3.6 cm.

Twenty months later, I had another ultrasound and the fibroid was 5.5 x 4.0 x

7.3 cm. Just ten months later, last week, I had another ultrasound, largest-8.5

x 8.0 x 8.2 cm. The doctor's conclusion from the ultrasound was " that there

appears to have been significant interval enlargement in the large posterior

uterine mass likely fibroid. There has been significant increase in size in

this short period of time. A malignant leiomyosarcoma cannot be excluded. " The

increase in size of my tumor doesn't surprise me. Last year I gave up tennis,

have had no exercise, sat in class or at home in front of a computer, my eating

habits decreased in quality, and everything that could go wrong did which

created a lot of stress.

I am seeing an OB/GYN today for consultation, and in May I have my pap check up.

Today I am going to get Carla Dionne's book, Sex, Lies, and the Truth about

Uterine Fibroids. From internet information sources, I read that 7 women in

one million develop cancer from fibroids, and less than 1/2 of 1% that any

cancer will result from fibroids because they are benign, non-cancerous tissue

growth.

Then I read that these rare forms of cancer usually occur in women who are

post-menstrual. I'm not postmenstrual. I'm 53, hoping to wait this fibroid

condition out through menopause. I haven't started menopause, but sure wish

that I would. Before the results were in about my ultrasound, my GP said that

this wait thing just might work out because when you go into menopause they dry

up and go away. He called me two days ago, explained the ultrasound results and

said, " The wait thing does not look like it's going to work. " He told me to see

what my OB/GYN says on Thursday. In four hours I'll find out what he thinks.

I'm looking into myos. Hope my OB/GYN thinks favorably about them. I doubt it.

I'm not thinking very clearly now. I'll email what my doctor says.

Thanks for any insight,

Cactuskat2
