Guest guest
Hi Habon - If I were in your shoes, I would not hesitate to cancel this surgery and run as quickly as possible from this Dr. With fibroids, you do have time to conduct a little more research until you find a surgeon you feel comfortable with and in whose skills you have complete confidence. Once you're in the op'g room, you need to be able to thoroughly trust that your Dr will do what you want him to do for you, and it clearly looks like waking up without a uterus is not your objective. I don't disagree that it is every Dr's responsibility to provide his patients with all relevent information associated with a procedure, including risks, but he should not terrify you with the negative possibilities or discuss them to excess (ie uncontrollable bleeding/transfusions/hysto/even death/etc) ...From what you're saying, it sounds like he's not confident in himself and is preparing you for acceptance of a possible and entirely unwanted result due to his lack of skills. It's your body, and you may only get this one chance. You're very young and you want children... do you trust him? Do you think you're going to trust him next Friday? Should you decide to cancel (and I'm sure I'm not the only one here hoping you do), please remember that, IF you find a qualified/skilled Dr, there is no such thing as a fibroid case that is so big or so difficult that your uterus cannot be preserved--and further, I believe, be preserved in a manner that allows you the ability to conceive and carry a full term pregnancy (ask Dr West), and no reason ever for a surgeon to convert to a hysto (except for cancer). There have been lists here on the site of questions to ask a potential Dr during the evaluation process. Also, absolutely wonderful resources are books by Carla and Dr's and Stanley West that you might find priceless right now to assist you in making an informed decision. None of them take very long to read and all 3 are written in a format that is very easy to understand. My Dr's consent form which I signed the day prior to surgery very clearly stated that the procedure to be performed was to be " MYOMECTOMY--NO HYSTERECTOMY " , and my Dr GUARANTEED myo (unless cancer was present). I don't know if other Dr's and their forms are similar, but I do know that there are other very qualified Dr's out there besides the one I chose who would be worthy of your trust. Yours appears not to be one of them. While on that subject, neither does the one who has had his patient on Lupron for the past 9 mths (Delle, holy cow!)!! Where do you both live? I'm sure someone on the list can help point you to more qualified Dr's. We aren't Dr's (at least I'm not), but we're all here to help women like both of you as best we can-- please take advantage of us! I know that if we posted something inaccurate or otherwise off-base, Carla would no doubt pitch in to correct us. Marie
