I don't know about fibroids leaking, but when my subserosal grapefruit-sized fibroid first started bothering me back in 2001, I had a month or so where I was experiencing episodes of an intense burning sensation in my abdomen, accompanied by an intense feeling of pressure. Sometimes it would happen in the middle of the night, and I would have dreams about my abdominal organs glowing like red hot coals. At one point it was so bad that I thought I would have to go to the hospital, but it quieted down after a few hours and never came back, thank God. My gynecologist said that the thought the fibroid was " bleeding inside itself. " And that's all he said. Anyone else ever experience anything like this or hear this from a doctor? Cathy B. Guest guest
Going through the same thing except I over did it this week-end and have ended up in bed since Monday due to pain in my abdomen. It gets so bad sometimes all I can do is hold by breath until it subsides. My doc let me know about the tumor and went on vacation without giving me any other info but should be back today. This group has been a blessing from God to get me better informed and prepared when I do hear from him. I am in the deep south and from what I can find out from women here is just a hyster. Thanks to this group I now know that I do other options that I intend to pursue. Can't wait to hear what everyone has to say. Guest guest
Fibroids can degenerate, and that can be very painful sometimes. That may very likely be what you are feeling. Aren't the cells either cancerous of benign? She keeps saying, " wait and see " , like she wants me to have a hysto!!! There are a lot of " old school " mindset type people in the medical profession who only talk about what they learned in med school a long time ago. *************** I think your m-i-l needs to do some curren tresearch. Fibroids are not, and to the best of my knowledge have never been considered to be, " pre-cancerous " . The term pre-cancerous is falling out of favor today. It refers to a condition, such as hyperplasia of the uterus (overgrowth of tissue in the uterus) where there has been some change in the cells which MAY.. in some cases... at a later date...continue on to become cancer. Another example of a pre-cancerous condition is some sun damage on skin. Some of this will go on to become skin cancer. Fibroids are benign, period. There is, however, another form of uterine tumor called leiomyosarcoma which IS a malignant tumor but this does NOT start out as a fibroid. It's a different beast altogether. However, in the early stages it can be mistaken for a fibroid. MRI can be used to differentiate between the two. You might want to give your m-i-l Plourde's book " Your Guide to Hysterectomy, Ovary Removal, & Hormone Replacement: What All Women Need to Know " for her next birthday...it's sure to prove an eye-opener for her!
