Guest guest
Dear Joan, I am also 51 years of age. I deceided to undergo a myomectomy 4 weeks and I am finally happy. But my problem was that my fibroids were wall to wall (intramural) and tw of them were 12 cm. I still get my period and menstruation could go on for seven or more years( my sis is 57 and shes not done). I watched and waited several years ago and all the fibroids seemed to do is grow. I went to an interventional radioligist but there were too many reasons that it might not be sucessfuol due to the size and vascularity of my fibroids. I felt that I had to do something because I had a feww very heavy bleeding days every month and I couldnt stand it. Also my organs were so cramped in there. I could never pee normally and it seemed to go in any direction but in the toilet. I had a canteloupe size lump that anyone could feel if I was laying down and my uterus was the size of a 6 month pregnancy. Now, if not for all of the above, I would have passed on surgery. But I could not take a chance that these fibroids were going to grow any larger. Get an mri or an ultrasound . Start there and find out the size and type of fibroids that you have. If they are not complicating your life too much dont do anything. Get one of the very good books recommended by the girls on this board and read it .Carlas book is Sex, Liesand uterine fibroids. It is excellent. I flew to New York to have my surgery and am extremely happy. I did not want a hysterectomy . I felt insulted that my beloved gyn instructed my to take out my organs because of utrine fibroids.I got this message many times from well meaning gyn friends before I deceided to do my own research.. Everyones situation is a little bit different , so read and learn as much as you can. Hope that my experience can help you. ne
