Guest guest
Hi all, I'm new to this list and fibroid tumors. What is UAE? I'm 47 years old, not having anymore children but not ready to have a hysterectomy. I'm in the process of changing doctors because the one I have now is sadly lacking in " bedside manner " and is too anxious to do the hysterectomy. She describes my fibroids as small to medium, but she calls my uterus " diseased " . Thanks for all the info that I've already learned from all of you. Guest guest
Joanne, please tell me more about your UFE 4 years ago. What happened? Were there any complications? Did the fibroids find a new blood supply? What were/are your symtoms? Did you consider getting another UFE? How old are you? Sorry for all the questions. I had mine the end of Jan. I'm doing great but hoping it will last me to meno. (a good 10 years away!!) Jen -- In uterinefibroids , " jowortman " wrote: > I am scheduled for a hysterectomy tomorrow. Guest guest
I was about 44 when I had my UFE. It was a breeze. I should have gone home the same day I was in so little pain. I went right to motrin, no narcotics needed ever. The fibroids disappeared from ultrasound within 18 months and my uterus reverted to normal size. About 2 years later I had heavy bleeding, but my uterus was not enlarged. So I had hysteroscopy which found no submucosals and had endo ablation. That worked for a while. The fibroids I have now are definitely new. They are smaller, more numerous, and in different locations from my original ones. I am not considering a repeat UAE because I developed an allergy to angio dye. I want to save further use of the dye for cardiovascular reasons as I get older. I have strong family history of that. I am tired of dealing with menorrhagia every few years. I have lost so many years to feeling tired and dizzy and headachy. Enough. I fully understand the risks of hysterectomy, but I am at a point where I want a full cure for this problem. My mother has lived happily, been sexually satisfied and had no complications from her hysterectomy nearly 40 years ago. Never had to take hormones. I have positive expectations from this surgery. I am not disappointed that the UAE didn't work, or the ablation. They were easy things to try. There is NO endometrium left, according to my latest D&C results, yet I bleed for four weeks in a row. I suspect my ultimate diagnosis will find some adeno in addition to the fibroids. It's just odd that I have this much blood, and no endometrium in there. > > I am scheduled for a hysterectomy tomorrow. Guest guest
One more note, see my last response to questions about my UAE. My gyn refused to consider a hyst for me when I was 44, yet now believes it's justified. He does not seem knife-happy in the least, so I feel comfortable that my decision is supported by trusted medical opinion. > Hi all, > > I'm new to this list and fibroid tumors. What is UAE? Guest guest
Hi Joanne I am considering a UAE as one of my options. I'm 31 and childless. Question how come you have to get a hysterectomy? why not a myomectomy? I have been doing a little research and it appears that if the UAE doesn't work hysterectomy (or death) appear to be the only two options. How old are you by the way and did you get an answer from your Dr. as to why your fibroids grew back? --- jowortman jowortman@...> wrote: > I am scheduled for a hysterectomy tomorrow. Guest guest
I chose to have a hysterectomy because I don't want to have more children or more surgery. I think that since my body keeps growing new fibroids, a myo is not going to give me the permanent cure I seek. The surgery was friday, I kept my ovaries and cervix, and I was home within 48 hours with remarkably little pain. My fibroids did not grow back, I grew new fibroids. So far, (and I know my assessment could change as time goes on) this surgery has been far easier than everyone led me to believe it would be. I really felt well enough to go home within abou 30 hours, but I didn't want to track the doc down to release me that early. And I had the abdominal version, not the vaginal version. I was off morphine in less than 12 hours, and just taking normal doses of motrin since I got home. > > I am scheduled for a hysterectomy tomorrow.
