Hi

I'm glad you were able to take that deep breath that we all have taken between

the panic after the diagnosis and the moment when we realize things are better

than we thought.

Like someone else said here, when you've known someone who's had and suffered or

died from cancer, it makes you more sensitive. I've lost quite a few family

members (none in my immediate but all my grandparents and quite a few aunts and

uncles) so the C word is the first conclusion that any of us reach around here.

I was lucky because my gyno actually said no, not cancer even as she was

recommending a hysterectomy.

Anyway, many discussions have been had about the fibroidian belly, and what a

drag it is (insult on injury.) Some treatment options (such as myo) can be more

apt to have a slimming effect; UAE sometimes does and sometimes doesn't (in my

case it did). You basically have to look at ALL the pros and cons and risks to

determine what will be right for you, and you don't have to decide quickly,

either.

Much has also been posted about the size limitations on UAE. My largest (not my

only) fibroid was about 10cm. My IR thinks that over 17cm the shrinkage results

are not that great. There are women who have elected this procedure w/fibroids

even larger than that (20cm?) although I believe they are in the minority. You

probably know by now (?) that with UAE you are affecting ALL the fibroids, not

just one.

So the thing with fruit is, Texas Star Ruby or california organic? Because not

all grapefruits are created equal - I asked my doc what kind of potato - you

know what I mean. It was both a good and a bad visualization for me. And,

thanks for the fryer remark, that was a good'un!

best,

laurie g.

ps if you want to ask more questions about embolization there is also a group

devoted to that here on yahoo called 'embo'. between this fantastic group (for

all possible treatment considerations) and that one, you can get so much support

and information. I could not have gotten through my own process without it.

Your kind message was the best thing that happened to me today :)

It is such a shock to know that you are carrying some big tumour in

your body. I think the idea of this takes a little bit to settle

in. My father had a tumor once and it took his life so I am a little

sensitive to the word itself. It is good to know that this

condition is almost always NEVER cancer.

The comical side of this all is that I turned 40 last year and have

always been a size 7/8. Well I couldn't get into my blue jeans and

I had to reinvest in some new ones. I cut back on the sweets which

always helps me lose that 5 lbs and that tummy just kept on

protruding. So perhaps I will still have a figure once this thing

is dealt with. Watch and wait....that I am not to keen on. I was

at the grocery store today and in the fruit section I looked at

those grapefuits and picked one up and it really hit home.....and

then I looked over at the cantaloupe's and said to myself " I don't

think so " ...... so your procedure sounds very interesting and I have

been researching it on the net. Also have read about myos.

Can you tell me Laurie if your procedure is successful with large

fibroids?

I am also getting some blood work done as my doc thinks I might be

anemic...shortness of breath.

Thanks so much and I am glad to hear that you have fried your

potato :)
